john Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I have tried for the last week not to use my back doors as it were to imagine life with a 3 door and its not gonna work, I had to fit a LJ4600 in today, i cannot imagin doing that in a 3 door, was bad enough in a 5 door when im tall and have the seat right back. So its gonna be a 5 door for me, so I will keep looking. I was after an R32 A for the bragging rights of having a 3.2ltr Golf and B because that Engine coupled with a Miltek stainless exhaust sounds amazing! But im in dilemmer land, I am a Diesel fanboy so I'm concerned bout going over to a petrol, I love racing through floods and charging at them and petrols don't like that So its big decisions. And before it is suggested, I am not having a MK5 GT TDI no thanks (well maybe the GT 170 TDI), the dashboard in most of the MK5's looks like it came out of something French IE a cheap nasty Peugeot, overall the MK5 range is not as nice internally as the MK4 was but the MK5 GTI has that solved and it looks the part, the plastics look nicer and it feels nicer, but its a bit annoying you have to part with 20K to get a nice interior, my last one was only about 15K new and thats got a really nice interior.

I'm not impressed with the numerous untraceable rattles I have (and the appauling VW customer service) and this will be the first and last vdub I ever own. The Mk4 build quality was far superior. I'm sorry but next time I'm off to the Audi garage for an RS something :twisted:
ChrisC Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I'm 20 and I drive a 1996 1.8 16V Citroen Xantia LX, let the jokes and ridicule commence! It really does guzzle gas though, I get around 25-27Mpg town. Passed my test in november. The car was free (parents old car), but the insurance is much more than the cars worth... luckily got a loan from the bank of parents which i just finished paying off at £200 a month! Chris

It went into BMW for a couplpe of bits over the weekend and I requested a 3 series saloon diesel for my dad to try as he's due a new car. They gave me a 325 coupe lol. It was a nice car, my mini felt quicker but it did sounds nice! It was nice to get my mini back this morning. BMW's seem to have a really long clutch, i had an X3 it was great for Ikea but the clutch just got annoying Robert

Would love to spend a bit on shoehorning V6 tdi into it with low profiles, uprated suspension and brembo brakes plus a good paint job.
SYNACK Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 (edited) I drive a 1998 Holden Vectra (Known in England as a Vauxhall Vectra GSI 2.5 V6) I have lowered it with performance springs, swapped out the standard alloys with 17" mags and fitted performance tires. Fine there is some and Awsome GTI have done bits and bobs but if you want to do that amount of work i'd get a Golf. But please what ever you do, can you do it tastefully OR ELSE THIS HAPPENS:

Good call.. any pics of your new GIT john :twisted:Nothing as yet, and to say that the Log Book says its Black as its colour, well it looks more like mud brown at present so won't be having an PR Arty shots at present, but one day. But its all standard, got the usual BBS GTI Alloys that the MK4 had, red and black GTI Sports Seats, leather bits and bats, dark wood trim, smoked rear GTI Lights etc etc.

Travel a mile or so, up to main beam on a rural A road, all OK. Dip for an on-coming car; "Cor, why has it gone so dark?" Ahh, I've lost the off side dip lamp. On with the fogs, and drive the next 5 miles home. Next day, go to change it. I've got spares, and the handbook; how hard can it be? The book says "Take off rear cover, remove either the main, or dip lamp, and replace." The offside lamp cluster is immediately in front of the engine management thingy, which is in a plastic bucket arrangement, and under some hot pipes. OK, the bucket must be removable, surely you should be able do this at the road side! Like hell; you need a long reach socket set to get the bucket out and all my tools are at work! The nearside fitting is marginally easier, all you would have to do is take the battery out. Grrr!!

rhyds Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 My dad's taken the corner off the battery box with a hacksaw to make changing the bulbs on mum's focus easier. Rover 75s are awfull too, the left hand bulbs involve taking the front wheel off and going in through the arch, and if you have aircon there's a nice refrigiration pipe in the way... My metro on the other hand still takes H4 halogens with but a small clip to hold them

rhyds Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I have just joined Kris in owning an Alfa, a 146 1.8 Twinspark. Alfas are a bit like a *nix distro, takes a bit of tweaking to get it going 100%, but it's glorious when it does (only pain is that when the engine is at it's most glorious, your drinking fuel at a similar rate to a 747...)
