elsiegee40 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I drive a Y reg 1.6 Ford Focus... but not to work; the parking's awful round here. I ride my bike or hike to work! The Focus has been great for the kind of driving I do it just kkeeps soldiering on. We have a nice new shiny Volvo V70 for motorways and shipping the massive amounts of junk the kids seem to need. It swallows 4 boys and their enormous cricket bags with ease!

The VR6 was the best MK3 golf, plenty of power but not too big, still haven't been in one yet, but the thought of that meaty V6 soundtrack is enough

broc Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Silver BMW Z4 Convertible with black leather interior, it's just a baby with a 2.2l 170bhp straight 6 engine (sounds nice though); downside is with rear wheel drive and wide 'run-flat' tyres it's a little devil on slippery roads. Apart from that I have an 1980s Land Rover Air Portable (aka Lightweight) and a 3,500kg Autotrail Motorcaravan There are some advantages to being >50..... or so I keep telling myself

Most hairdressers don't get paid enough to buy a Z4, they drive MX5s I wanted a Boxster, but the £900 service costs put me off, even Network Managers have to draw the line somewhere. The Z4 is almost as much fun as a Boxster, albeit a lot slower unless you go for the 3.0. You should try one......

My biggest problem with the new MX5 was not being able to get a good driving position otherwise I would have bought one, despite the 'hairdresser' comments. I have never worried about what people think of what I drive.... I have read that the Z4 is something of a 'gay' icon in the US.... For me it's a great drive, and dropping the roof on a fine day brings a smile to your face. I have lost count of how many times I have ended up with a scorched scalp though, being follically challenged. My wife refuses to let me wear a baseball cap..... says I am too old...

It's an ex-motability Merit spec, so electric nothing, basic of basics. Suits me! 2 week tank as well. I was considering the estate - it seems to be a common "techie" theme, but it's got plenty of hauling room anyway. The most expense I've had was a £260 head gasket change and full service after we did a landy-esqe "ford crossing" with water coming up the bonnet. The rest is just £25 tyres, and £15 services.

Performance was about the same with or without the trailer. We now have a towbar on the minibus so I got myself a Daihatsu Sirion. Just coming up to three years old and 9500 miles on the clock.

Good ole Maesty/Monty diesels, powered by that giant of engineering, Perkins of Peterborough. Was it a turbo diesel by any chance? seen a few people open those up for some serious shifting
