Hello All,

I have been given a section in the staff newsletter called Oliver's IT Tip Top Tips! I am now stuck for things to put in it! Can anybody recommend anything we can stick in it such as global advice with PCs etc. Last time, I had info about viruses and scams.

PLEASE HELP!!

Perhaps an article explaining that when machines suggest a reboot is required that they follow that advise rather than cancelling or ignoring

or a piece highlighting that IT does not cover everything in the world.....

1. Always save documents into your personal drive that way they will be backed up nightly

2. Make office your own, customize toolbars

3. When transfer large amounts of data using a laptop try to connect it to a wall network connection for the best speed

things like that?

one tip that I wish our users could learn is how to create a shortcut to something rather than copying the whole folder you their desktop.

file and folder management tips.

How to resize photos to save space on the servers.

Things with Virus and scams can always be re-used with the latest at the time.

If it's for things to with their home computers anyting like how to check if they have any AV software and if it is up to date. Windows updates etc. How to save in compatible formats if using different software at home to school.

If it's for the school computers you could remind staff about online facilities, how to troubleshoot common reported problems such as computer/projector issues that regularly come your way - Fn&F4 etc, check cables are connected and powered etc.

Back up to your drive on the server!

Did I say Back up?

You might want to Back up!

BACK UP People!!!

That's what I'd put!

(I put a sign for Back Up through GP so that it comes up before anyone logs on......They STILL don't do it!!)

How to get accented letters - I am always being asked this

You don't need to type www on most common websites

Switch it off and on again

Common keyboard shortcuts

How to choose a printer using 'add a printer' (if they have this option)

How to switch off the proxy for home use

How to swap between open documents

How to increase/decrease/capitalise fonts on a document

....and that's just the things I have been asked this week! :)

Email management tips? Things like only send what you need to, delete junk, folders, rules, etc? Teachers seem to be really bad at just hoarding emails.

... and emptying the sent items folder, don't copy in the entire school...

Another one might touch on Data Protection. Is what you send at an approriate level of detail for the recipient? Should the information be anonymised? Is there a more secure way of transferring the data?

I should have thought of that! Been looking at the DPA for part of the day!
