featured_spectre Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 But the BBC have decided not to actively do product placement, thus losing a large amount of monies.
DrCheese Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 The BBC aren't allowed to do product placement anymore than that they allowed to have adbreaks.
localzuk Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I say target the BBC - they have pi55ed £900 million [ yes thats 900 MILLION ] on moving everyone from London to Manchester. Or, they have realised that a disproportionate amount of fee payers money was being spent in London, and not enough in the north, so have fulfilled their legal duty to give a fair deal to *all* feepayers? Also sending 200+ staff to Glastonbury 2011 - waste of money. Not really, it provides arts coverage to lots of events, Glastonbury is one of them - covering the arts world is part of the BBC's remit. The BBCs own internal 'cultural agenda' - Favouring the youth/niche channels (BBC3 & 4), - £150m to 'move' Radio 5 lite, Kids TV etc to Salford. Waste of money. Oh, you mean the reason the BBC exists favours the reason the BBC exists? Shocking... It is public service TV, not 'F1 TV'. Spent £25m on 'The Voice' to compete with a certain Cowell. Waste of money. Maybe, maybe not, but it served a niche. Much like their various dancing shows. Not my cuppa tea, but I wouldn't say they shouldn't make those shows. And now something that people are ACTUALLY watching they want to pull - yeah, nice one BBC. Morons. And they've made the right choice. As a fee payer, I don't think its right for the BBC to pay a disproportionate amount on that one sport over others.
featured_spectre Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 So football, tennis and rugby which are invariably higher costs you don't mind??
localzuk Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 So football, tennis and rugby which are invariably higher costs you don't mind?? If they are paying that much for any single sport, they should be looking at it again - they aren't there to give 100% coverage to any sport, they are supposed to cover all sorts.
featured_spectre Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Football they are paying a heck of a lot more (especially for international matches like champions league or Euro/World Cups) Rugby they only show the international games which are roughly on a par with football matches Tennis they pay an extortionate amount which is why they only show wimbledon
localzuk Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Football they are paying a heck of a lot more (especially for international matches like champions league or Euro/World Cups) Rugby they only show the international games which are roughly on a par with football matches Tennis they pay an extortionate amount which is why they only show wimbledon Evidence? Also, you kinda missed the point. The BBC will still be showing F1. Just not all of it. They don't show ALL football coverage, they don't show ALL rugby, or ALL tennis - they show some, to give access to those sports to those who can't afford the PPV type stuff.
markcuk Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 The BBC aren't allowed to do product placement anymore than that they allowed to have adbreaks. Then they should not show any sport which is sponsored by anyone or they should blur all the logos out then. I mean watching football or F1 is one BIG advert for companies really. Why try and cover jake's ipad when they are happy to show vodafone etc etc I know they are not directly advertising but they are in other ways and they sell so many TV programs around the world I dont see why they are so short of cash (oh yeah media city:troll:)
featured_spectre Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Granted they dont show each and every match, thats too much for even sky to do, but when it comes to international games they show pretty much 90% of them (and pay more costs) Rugby they show every international match that involves the home nations Tennis they show Wimbledon and granted not all of the games but they pay so much they can only afford to show wimbledon and not the french open or the australian open etc. For costs that they pay, takes a bit of research, I did it a while back when trying to justify the cost of the TV License. (And no I dont begrudge paying it as they do cover a wide variety of programming that I, My mrs, and My daughter watch)
penfold_99 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 It won't get you anywhere, the gov will simply say (quite rightly) that they have no say in the management and day to day running of the BBC. I find the whole thing insane to be honest, people are targeting the BBC yet seem to ignore that the BBC have no choice but to cut back since the license fee has been frozen for 6 years and they are also now forced to fund the world service (It was funded by the foreign office in the past). It would be very wrong of the BBC to spend money hand over fist just to appeal to one section of the fee paying public (F1) fans. No other sport has it's full competition aired on FTA UK TV, think of the dungstorm if the BBC decided to try to bid market rates for say, the premiership or even the championship. If the F1 management want more money than the BBC can justify, how is it the BBC's fault? The government can stipulate that a sport has to be shown on FTA. The list of protected sporting events, maintained under the 1996 Broadcasting Act, is as follows: Olympic Games Fifa World Cup Finals FA Cup Final Scottish FA Cup Final Grand National The Derby Wimbledon tennis finals European football championship finals Rugby League Challenge Cup Final Rugby World Cup Final Among those where live coverage might still be shown exclusively, provided secondary rights are available to a generally free-to-air broadcaster, are: Test cricket matches played in England Non finals play at Wimbledon All other matches in the Rugby World Cup finals tournament Six Nations rugby tournament matches involving home countries Commonwealth Games World Athletics Championships Cricket World Cup (final, semi-finals and matches involving home nations' teams) Ryder Cup Open Championship
sted Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 The best way to get it off sky is just not to watch it if the ratings are dreadful on sky then there will be no reason for sky to keep the rights when its up for renewal and it wont be worth as much so bbc can afford it

Just don't get sky. Interesting to see Bahrain is back on the calendar abit delayed till November, despite their terrible human rights records and life imprisonment for protesters (if they didn't get shot beforehand). Nice one Bernie.
aerospacemango Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 This. Just don't get sky. Interesting to see Bahrain is back on the calendar abit delayed till November, despite their terrible human rights records and life imprisonment for protesters (if they didn't get shot beforehand). Nice one Bernie. From what I've read....this is for NEXT season's calendar. This season's race was deffo cancelled.
iMash Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 From what I've read....this is for NEXT season's calendar. This season's race was deffo cancelled. That sounds about right to me. Just checked my F1 app and Bahrain isnt on this seasons calendar in the app.

Theblacksheep Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 From what I've read....this is for NEXT season's calendar. This season's race was deffo cancelled. Yeah should have put that in. Doh. Rumor has it Bernie is mulling over Libya, North Korea and even Afghanistan, but only when the Taliban revert to the control they had in 2000.

Those are the 3 destinations for our pre-season tour, next year!

synaesthesia Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 The last time Sky had it was for a multi-year deal. That went belly up in 1.
laserblazer Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Who provides the OB Unit for the local events? I'd assumed the BBC.
john Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 The BBC aren't allowed to do product placement anymore than that they allowed to have adbreaks. They are allowed to now they are choosing not to I thought, OfCom said PP could be done but a logo has to be shown at the start of the program to indicate that the show includes Product Placement.
plexer Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 BBC News - Product placement ban on British TV lifted Continues to be banned for bbc. Ben
featured_spectre Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Top Gear have product placed for years, as have Holby City and Casualty (TG show cars all the time, HC and Casualty show phones and tablets all the time)...logo's are clearly visible, and they dont get told off.

Ah, its different - product placement is them getting paid for it. Having products on show isn't itself product placement. Top Gear do not get paid to drive the cars they use.
Disease Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Don't be tight, get Sky and be happy with the best coverage of sport around.
