I've been pottering around on these boards quite a while - and a few of you have even met the strange fellow behind the cracked avatar. Recently (I'd been working up to this!), I decided it's time to make an important step.

 

Well, not really a step - more of a half kneel as I went down on one knee and popped the question to my girlfriend.

 

After some surprise and a few tears (from her - not me, me MAN! ), she said yes!

 

We are now officially engaged!

 

Not set a date for the wedding yet - we're just weighing up our options...

You just tell us the reception venue, and make sure the first drink is on the house...and all of us will crash it! :-)

 

Congrats though!

 

I honestly think that'd scare the cr@p out of her - "as a legion of techs descend", would be memorable though! :p

Congrats

 

From someone who has been engaged for 2 years, you will soon be asked all the questions under the sun and be nagged for a date every couple of months. Personally, take your time, enjoy your time together and work out what you want to do when you want to do it. Don't be rushed into making decisions all under presion from family/friends.

Me and (my now) wife waited 4 years till we set the date, and the date was 2 years after that.

 

Proposed while she was in Uni, waited till she finished, then another year or so, then 18-20 months of planning.

As one who has recently got married, may I offer my congrats to you both! :)

 

...and also a "good luck" to you. She may be cool, calm & collected now, but when she starts going to wedding fares and buying wedding magazines, bridezilla WILL come to life, and no matter what you suggest or say you like/dislike, it will be wrong! ;)

Funny thing is - we recently went to one of her work friends' wedding reception, (I had asked before this) so once we got there - we were almost mobbed by people asking questions.

Awesome, just plain awesome - I now have the mental image of her stomping around a miniature tokyo in a wedding dress going "RAAAA!"

heh no matter how much you plan there will be something you miss or that goes outside of the plan.

 

on our day, when my wife arrived all in her dress, there was a football team on a coach parked in the car park who all cheered as she got out. they had just stopped at the venue for a break. did wonders at making her even more nervous :p

A tip for you. Be "Geeky" and head to GettingMarried.co.uk - Create Your Free Wedding Website when you start to make plans, and you can make your very own custom "wedding website" (ours for an example: Paul and Becky's wedding) - It's free and has some really good features (plus most of our guests were "tech-savvy" so liked a web based info page to check on). You can "manage" it too which keeps the other half happy as your doing something "wedding-constructive"!

 

Also, to show you what you can expect, once we sat down and said "lets get married on this date" and started planing, this is what I came home to a day later:

I'd estimate that over the period of 8 months, she bought around 80-100 wedding magazines... :o

Horror of horrors - she has decided she wants to get married at Christmas, I think I may have to rob a bank to finance it :p

 

I got married on Dec 18th. For the first time in over 30 years in somerset, we had MAJOR snow the night before resulting in a couple of day guests being unable to make it, and almost 80% of evening guests not making it either. However, I'd still TOTALY recommend it as if you do have snow, your photos will look as amazing as ours did:

Remember though, book everything you can stupidly early. Things like DJ's, bands, string quartets etc will be sucked up fast for Christmas parties!

Plus, everyone knows PSN is full of kids and "basement dwellers"... Both groups have no money.
