Dos_Box Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 (edited) I'm a little confused here. Seeing as the traditional boundry between Europe and Asia is the Bosphorus in Turkey and Azerbaijan is 2000KM's east of there, how can they even enter!! What next? An entry from Japan? *Note for our American/Austrailian/NZ/global members. The Eurovision song contect is a one night extravaganza where each subscribed country submits a singing act and is then judged by the others. Most people use this evening event as an excuse to go to the movies/pub or simply get an early night. Edited May 16, 2011 by Dos_Box
Andrew_C Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 They bribe the right people? Israel have been competing for a while now...
maniac Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Because it's defined by the 'European Broadcasting Area' and not the traditional boundaries for Europe. European Broadcasting Area - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
AyatollahPies Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Who cares? Accept it for it is. Hilarious and camp television. I was hoping Moldova would do well. Their hats were superb. As much as I hate the brothers Grime, they had me in stitches with their daft jumping around. 1
Hightower Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I know how they can enter AND win...... Sepp Blatter is head honcho!
Sylv3r Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Azerbajan also appear in the European Football Championships - or at least the qualifiers anyway they are currently in the same group as Kazakhstan!
AngryTechnician Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I was hoping Moldova would do well. Their hats were superb. Maldova should have won. THEY HAD A FAIRY ON A UNICYCLE! How could they NOT win? Proof that the rest of Europe has no sense of humour. 1
Gatt Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 +3 for Moldova - was hoping for another Lordi! More than the Azerbaijan question.. there is a bigger question to be asked. How the hell did we get beaten by JEDWARD!!
john Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 As everyone loves Jedward are they are SOOOO bad! Blue should have won they are great
teejay Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Hopefully Blue will get the message and go back into retirement.
pritchardavid Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I thought our song was very boring, prefered Jedwards song I thought Spain Or Ireland should have won, Spains song was pretty catchy. But no most countries seem to always vote for their neighboor or close neighboors countries. Just doesnt work.
synaesthesia Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 *Note for our American/Austrailian/NZ/global members. The Eurovision song contect is a one night extravaganza where each subscribed country submits a singing act and is then judged by the others. Most people use this evenings event as an excuse to go to the movies/pub or simple get an early night. Unfortunately I must hasten to add to this a little. Each subscribed country submits a singing act, which is supposed to be judged by each other country. However, despite changes in voting systems designed to combat it, it still remains a largely political endeavour where countries will vote for their closest ally/business partner/neighbour. It is currently the largest gathering of mass xenophobia known to man. It used to be funny when Terry Wogan hosted it for the UK - at least he knew all of the above and joked constantly about it!
gshaw Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I like Eurovision, thought Hungary's song was decent as well... let the flaming begin
AyatollahPies Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I always hope that we get 'Nil Pwan'. Blue let me down. Anyone remember Gemini from a few years ago? I still laugh at that now. The worst singing I have ever heard. Rightly deserved 'nil pwan'.
mthomas08 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I still want to ask the actual real important question, how are Jedward still appearing on TV?????? how are they still earning a living??????
korifugi Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I still want to ask the actual real important question, how are Jedward still appearing on TV?????? how are they still earning a living?????? A long time ago I learned not to ask questions to which I will fear the answer - this is one of those moments
MK-2 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 A long time ago I learned not to ask questions to which I will fear the answer - this is one of those moments And yet you still proposed? 1
korifugi Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 And yet you still proposed? Well - sometimes it is time to nut up or shut up
bondbill2k2 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I still want to ask the actual real important question, how are Jedward still appearing on TV?????? how are they still earning a living?????? Keith Lemon giving them air time, well the hoff is now on celeb juice VT round but Jedwood were on that new singing show with him.
MK-2 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Well - sometimes it is time to nut up or shut up and getting married you'll quickly learn the shut up part 1
korifugi Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 and getting married you'll quickly learn the shut up part Well, I've already gotten the 'Repeat last sentence that was said to me when being accused of not listening' skill down :-P
Jon Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Really glad that they did win ... I had drawn them in a sweepstake :-)
Rydra Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Blue's song was a good pop-chart song... But the eurovision stopped being about good music a long time ago. Jedward, despite being awful at everything are still a stage presence (though their dancing abilities are indeed awful as well as their singing, costume choice, hair styling among other things). It's time to go back to the judges voting. The real question is, should we move it to a FPTP, AV or PR vote?
witch Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 ... But the eurovision stopped being about good music a long time ago. was it EVER about good music?
Rydra Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Some great songs and artists came out of eurovision long ago (Abba, Celine Dion to name but two of the most iconic names). Can't remember one in my lifetime though.
