How does everyone else prepare laptops for exam conditions for students with disabilities ?

We currently have 3 alphasmarts, but owing to the small screen size and certain disabilties they aren't always suitable.

We also use old laptops stripped to the barebones with no connectivity, with some tweaks and the shell set to wordpad.exe - seems to work fine

Depends on the requirements.

For example for the functional skills exams we do the kids have a login account based on their candidate numbers and they only have the applications they need, no internet etc..

We have those too, (I think business studies was the last one), this is more for say general exam conditions where a child has an issue using a pen at speed, also some disabilities include unable to remember whats been typed previously etc

The exams that are permitted to use spellecheckers have office installed on the laptops and those that don't we just use wordpad. Neither are added to our wireless network.

I've just uninstalled the Office 2010 proofing tools on ours. They have standalone exam logons, with very few applications, heavily modified registry settings, and obviously no network connection or need for it. The exam work is saved to memory stick and printed.

I've just built a laptop for exams as well, just installed a really early copy of Word 2003, and didn't install the dictionary or grammar tools. Cleared off all the useless clutter and not on the network.
