First thing first, put 10m in each of my kid's savings accounts/trust funds.

Ditto.. Though with only 1 child I'd put about £50m..

Second, house for us, my parents, my inlaws and make sure my nan has enough to tide her over for her rent & food & anything she ever wants to be comfortable & treat the rest of her grandkids/great grandkids.
Same here, though I'll make damn sure my family don't get anywhere near my winnings - Disowning works both ways!

Third, driving lessons and automatic car for my wife, new car for me. A runaround and something sporty for the weekends ;)
New cars for me and the wife definately!

A million for each of my closest friends - thankfully it's a close circle and we've all helped eachother out enough in the past to warrant making sure they're set up for a good few years. I'd possibly do something like give them an investment (like property) however I trust them enough to make their own choices and judgement.
Again I'd do this.. but it'd be a very very small list - probably only about 6 people!

I'd certainly put some towards a couple of choice charities. Mostly childcare ones - they're the important guys.
ditto - though for us it'd be animal charities, Alzheimer and Cancer ones too..

Plenty put aside in investment for ourselves, make sure we're set for life and not left wanting. But nothing extravagant.
- As would we, along with a "slush fund" for holidays, etc.

Buy an entire new ICT system for my school and fund the building of a new server room/workshop area.
I draw the line at that! for me - yes - the school after their treatment of me in the last few years would get bugger all!!

And turn up for work the next day, and every day after until I have good reason not to.
£85m would be a good enough reason for me!!

I can't not work, it's bloody horrible. Have to be doing something positive for someone. I'm one of the odd guys that likes going to work :D

Actually, scratch all that. Considering the absolute s*** Crapita put me through, I'd look at buying a fairly big stake in them and sorting them out ;) What are they worth these days? 10, maybe 20?

Pounds, that is.

Not that I've thought about it much...but like localzuk I'd be keeping 10-20 mil back to spend now and on various projects/properties (of course I'd be building the ultimate geeky I would stop taking salary and get them to hire someone to sit below me so that if I decided I was going away for a few weeks there wouldn't be a problem ;)

I haven't though about it much of course :p

Oh really :p :D

As for me, lets see:

Buy myself a house or three around the UK

Pay for my parents house to have all the jobs done on it that it needs, new car for my mum

Pay off my sisters Uni Fee's and debts

New Cars all round

Nice holidays for us all

Look after my friends

Consider re-doing lots of IT things at work and some other bits that need doing, within reason

Invest a good chunk of it as well and live off the interest / profits from the investments

Good donations to Charity as well :)

I'd still work if i'm honest I'd get bored after a while but I would ensure we had enough staff at work so I could be very flexible :)

Yeah, I'm talking about a narrowboat... :) Something to crawl around the canals in the UK on. I'd hire someone to keep it maintained.

Ohhh good call. Loved the times I have been out on them. Bet you could kit one of those out quite geekily :D Or kit it like this one!

@MK-2: Yeah I could as well, hence why I think a sail boat would be safer ;)

If you stuck your 85 mil in a basic 5% savings account you would make roughly £4,250,000 a year. Why even bother touching it lol!

I would just buy my family whatever they wanted up to the income made off my savings each year. Work for charities and just enjoy my life.

I would move it all off shore along with myself so as to avoid letting any of it fall into the hands of the treasury in the way of taxes where they will only waste it...

Spend 6 months a year in the Bay of Islands and the other 6 in Grand Cayman.

I wouldn't care if I never saw another keyboard.

Hmmmm

Strangely enough I wouldnt quit my work, just demand more time off to travel. I would actually donate a few mil to the IT Dept ;) I actually enjoy my job at times.

Would keep it all on the hush hush though. Go on a massive shopping spree in Bluewater in those expensive shops where a shirt (Crap one) costs £135..

Go on a holiday every chance I get and make my own paintball arena.

I would also make sure my good side family members got dosh and my younger sister who has already lived off my taxes for the last 8 years gets nothing.

Me and my mates used to have this discussion in my old job (IT Support desk in a retail company HO) and I said I'd pay everyone 50k to quit there and then to leave them in the muck, as at the time, they were a garbage company to work for. It was a nice thought.

I guess with 85m though, I'd like to buy a Spitfire and learn to fly it. :)
