Nearly agree with @Butters but I prefer Streets of Rage II for Mega Drive.

Doom 1 and Quake for FPS too, I can still walk through most levels in my mind right now, knowing all the traps and speedrun areas

Transport Tycoon Deluxe and Counter Strike (12 years old?!)

 

Transport Tycoon fan myself here, it's been sucking my life away the last few weeks! The best part is the Open Source project to keep it going called OpenTTD so it's still getting updates and support. Scratching my head how to upgrade from Diesel to Monorail when my everything runs through one transport hub and is interlinked...

It was like playing Elite, for the 21st Century.

 

Although a little formulaic, in gameplay and without the open-endedness of Elite. Still a game that I go back to time and time again.

On the PC - Frontier Elite II, GTA Vice City and Age of Empires 2.

I keep returning to GTA4 on the PC atm - for some reason there's a lot of fun to be had mowing down the fat bikers outside the Burger Shot on the road to the airport.....

Donkey Kong Country on the SNES was quality as well as the first Syphon Filter!

 

I remember being hooked on that stayling awake long in the night instead of revising for my exams to clear a level and save it on my memmory card!

 

Also Street Fighter II Turbo on the SNES.

 

As you can imagine - I love the SNES! Quality piece of gaming console

Personally the first C&C (ah the guard tower cheap infantry trick/ cheat...) and Crusader: No Remorse were responsible for eating up most of the late 90's for me.

 

I rediscovered Jonah Lomu Rugby quite recently, oh how I miss Bill McLaren's commentary .

Dune < Very atmospheric sounds and music at the time.

 

Ooo.... Dune! - I wasted/spent hours playing this. Came out when I was doing my finals. Only got a 2:1, would have had a first if it wasn't for Dune.*

This! X-Com all the way! I Still fire up Enemy Unknown in the afternoons thinking 'I'll just play an hours or so' and next time I look outside its 5am.
