I am trying to find out what sort of technical tests do hiring managers use if any and if you have had to take a test for a job what sort of format did it take any examples would be welcome

Intresting sastistic - it seems there are more women in management in IT than as techies. I am one of two female tecies in a team of 16 so not quite alone, the undergraduates studing Computing here is approximately 250 over the three year groups, but of these 250 only 22 are female.

When a meember of staff deletes an email randomly (no pattern to it) it deletes the one below, yes they are still in the deleted items bin but this is not a solution. I have set outlook to make sure it asks are you sure before deleting but it seems sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt. I thought she was maybe double clicking at first but I cant replicate the problem under other profiles doing this. Any help or ideas much appreciated

I work in Higher Ed and lots of techies here get specialist in there area and then go on to teach under graduates. Indeed a lot of our techies are abused in that they are often called upon to teach a class say final cut pro for instance but still only get techie wages. Some get specialist and then go back into the world of business where being able to teach final cut can earn a fortune.

Might be a draft question but can XP act as a server? I have an XP office machine which I want others to be able to access both in the office wirelessly and remotely,also want them to be able to share files and a wireless printer - I know it would be easier with server os but I dont have one for this instance. The other machines are all various versions on win7 on laptops.

As part of a wider project I asm going to be taking a series of 4 workshops on the basics of hardware skills so upgrading memory, changing a hard drive, memory types, ide and sata etc - so this will be appox 10-15 hours in total. Firstly I will take this to some undergraduate female students and then to secondary school female students. Has anyone done anything similar? or any ideas of what else I should introduce them to, ie different os types? or is that going to be too much for the time I have to do it justice? Ideas welcome please

This is great ladies, Thanks just the varied examples I wanted I am due to speak to secondary school girls studying GSCE IT in a few weeks and one of the things I wanted to point out was that you do not have to go to uni, but can still get very qualified and employable via other routes.

Thanks for letting us know your tender age Amy, I have children your age :-( When I started school women did not do techically drawing even let alone anything technically. I started life in the Army as a chef but years later after chiuldren, got interested in Computing, over the years I have been mainly self taught. I have run my own PC repair business and since then have worked in Education/IT for 10 years. I still do not have a degree in anything, although I do have Business HND, Comptia, Microsoft and Apple qualifications under my belt. In outlook 2007 although customer has all default settings set up to veranda 10 (her preferred setting) when she creates a new or forwards an email her signature appears huge on the screen – although when she sends the mail it appears normal (as per settings) at the other end. Deleting and recreating signature or using no signature still causes same problem.:Any help greatly received :confused
