We are to be hosted by Microsoft at their Reading campus, or TVP as they like to call it (homely!) for a day on the 24th Feb. There are spaces for 50 people, so it's first come, first served. Please start to indicate your inention to attend below. We'll get something better to handle the booking sorted out next week. As they have offered up the slots to the topics of our choice I'd thought I'd take advantage and suggest Office 365 and goodies from the Microsoft Labs as two sessions. Please feel free to suggest what we fill the other 4 sessions with. Please remember they ahve some world leading experts on Microsoft technologies there so it would be prudent to pick wisely.

Off the top of my head - live@edu - and whatever is in the pipeline there (overlaps with office 365 though). licensing changes - probably a bit dull Server 08 R2 & Win7 - getting the most out of them.
Dos_Box Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 We can include the new licensing scheme but it would be awfully dull though, and give the opportunity to ask Microsoft about really funky stuff I think we'd better pass on it, unless you want a licensing break out session perhaps (we also have a smaller room)?

I agree Live Labs would be another good choice, seeing what is ahead for the future. Is it worth maybe finding out more about Unified Communications and Collaberation, and maybe some more information on the Virtualization (Server and Desktop) aswell as AppV as i imagine some people still would prefer more information on how to use these kind of technologies? Maybe looking at how they have now used Direct Access (windows7 and server2008r2) ? (External Services) James. Edited January 22, 2011 by EduTech

I'd second the suggestions about App-V, I've used it a bit and have found it extremely useful for software that has proved troublesome to deploy using traditional methods. Even if people aren't sold on the 'virtualise everything' concept (I know I'm not) I think more people would like to know about the option.

If it's anything like last time the start was at 10am (be there for book in at 09:30) and we finished about 4:30 pm. We shall be staying at the Novotel and there is a free shuttle bus service that leaves for TVP from Reading station every 15 mins (imagine a normal bus, but with air con and leather upholstery!). Where are you travelling from? We might have a few tips for you.

Trust me, we have shopped around! We have a 'card' with Novotel and if you do want a room please PM me. No dropping out though as we have to pay in advance. It's £44 per night as far as I can gather for one person. Also, if you have any suggestions for topic to be covered, keep 'em coming.

AV... Forefront Client Protection might replace our current Kaspersky product Backup... DPM 2010 might replace Backup Exec Spam Filtering... Forefront most likely will replace Messagelabs There's a nice chunk of savings by bringing those back to MS under Campus licensing but I would like to see a demo environment with the whole lot set up and working. Would be great if MS could show a fully functioning environment built on Hyper-V with the whole package above set up and working smoothly to show those of us looking to shift from existing products. The main reason I haven't done so already is that I need to be convinced they're stable and match the usability of what we have now and as much as I like setting it all up on my test network I'm a bit pushed for time at the moment so a hands-on demo would be most useful Something like this setup... Hyper-V virtualised servers SCVMM managing said servers DPM 2010 doing backups and maybe a demo of bare metal VM recovery \ brick level restore for Exchange and SQL VDI on a Windows 7 client running from Hyper-V with RemoteFX SCCM R3 managing the software etc and also managing... Forefront Client Security on some desktops App-V running virtualised apps e.g. Photoshop Edited January 24, 2011 by gshaw
