not too many yobs confess to their family and then hand themselves in once they manage to find an open police station.

Whilst he should be punished for a yobbish and stupid act, the sentence handed out is a disgrace.

Trouble is, that's definitely not the sentence he would've got if it wasn't such a high profile case, I doubt that would've even made court in normal circumstances.

I also don't like sentencing on 'what if's', yes it was extremely stupid and dangerous what he did, but no-one actually got injured. It's like getting caught jumping a red light, it's a very stupid and dangerous thing to do, but then getting sentenced for death by dangerous driving as you could've killed someone.

Think if he appeals then he'll probably get about 6 months suspended.

sentence aside (i'm undecided)

I do think he deserved to be punished. And it was a very stupid thing to do, and people could have been seriously injured.

if someone walks up to a crowded train station or shopping area with a bomb, if the bomb doesn't go off is that less of a crime than it actually going off?

Yep,it's attempted murder,not murder.

I have no sympathy for him, it's about time judges started to hand out decent custodial sentences for violent behaviour, I hope the muppet enjoys his new career path at Asda.

I think the government should have raised tuition fee's again after the riots to compensate the tax payer for the damage caused by these supposedly educated people.

He should have been hit with the fine for inappropriate use of a fire extinguisher as well. As far as I'm concerned it was stupid, he deserves all he gets.

Why should ASDA have to put up with the idiot (although i take your point)..

This will hopefully send out a strong signal that this behavior should not be tolerated!

I agree that he deserves to go to jail. However the length of his sentence smacks of "being made an example of". Didn't that nursery worker who took pictures of children being abused only get 4 years?

Smells like our lords and masters want to make sure that any protests against their policies are stamped on very hard.
