I guess many of us will be going back tomorrow (4/1) so what do we all have in store for the first week back?

With any luck the final bits of our VDI kit will be arriving so that will be getting put together – also its going to be time to start looking at putting some of our ‘internal’ web services onto the actual web.

In order, tomorrow will be:

1. Fix the SIMS.INI on every single staff laptop when they discover they can't load SIMS

2. Repair the SIMS Document Management Server

3. Get a telling off for not finishing the Lync PSTN gateway deployment because SIMS took 3 days to nearly migrate to a new server

Well so far tonight, after dialing into one primary school, we have:

Sophos whining about its end of life in March as previously discussed on here

A Server who's C Drive has gone from having about 15GB free space before Xmas to 0mb free now :o So I'm trying to fix that now and find out what ate it all over Christmas

A Server who's other drive has got down to its last 10GB free space as well, so there fairly munching through that

So thats just one place.

In terms of my place, things should, fingers crossed, be fairly quiet, bar forgotten passwords which are the norm for us.

I've got a CCTV camera or two to get fitted quiet urgently before any more windows get smashed

Need to start migrating some stuff onto the new SAN now its all setup, rigged fully etc

Need to tidy my office as its a bomb site

Re-program the tills in the kitchen for the new VAT rate so that will be half the day lol Stupid cash registers why don't they just have a simple way of programming them that makes sense GRRRR

1. Rewire the heater.

2. Shift 130 bathroom wall-tiles into the back of someone's van.

3. Figure out what the heck I'm going to do with 37 cases of industrial-strength air-fresheners.

I'll take some of them, they may be strong enough to make the staff toilets not smell like, well eeer blocked rotting foul toilets!

If it's anything like after the summer holidays, sending an email round to all staff telling them the server is getting full because they've all taken hundreds (or in a couple of cases - thousands) of photos over the holidays, copied them to their laptops into 'My Documents' which has then synchronised onto the server as soon as they connect to the network!

Playing with photocopiers and getting them ready to use and also I believe some work for our email migration to the national system but trying to have very little to do with it. My main aim to is play with my new toys (photocopiers) which came before Christmas and getting ready to move our server room 20 miles down he road to the other one due to that building closing.

Where to start, cause of the snow things have been backed up.

1. Finish building 30 new PCs

2. Move the 30 displaced machines to another room (contains 4-10 year old pcs)

3. Do some Admin IT Training

4. Find out where the 17 Panaboards we ordered have ended up

5. Install the panaboards

6. Get Panasonic in for a case study

7. Order some bollard warning signs

8. Get training on managing the HiPath PBX

9. Finish building the staff netbooks (45 in total)

10.Build the County Issued Laptops we got onto the network

11.Get the Full Site WiFi system installed

12.Get the new hall screen and projector installed

13.Purchase a laptop charging station

14.Chase up where the library barcode scanner is (was RMA)

15.Find out where the 14th laptop is from county (got 13 laptops and 14 cases)

I'm sure my boss has more for me as well, but that all I can think of for now. That list is my current job list for Jan

Today has been a nice surprise for me. I found out this morning that there's an inset day at the school I'm at so no kids !! Teachers leaving at 12pm.. fantastic !! It means I can get so much more done than I expected.

Was hoping for a nice quiet start back, but the boss ballsed up the SIMS upgrade last term, and since she is not in this morning and this is the first I heard, I have to upgrade SIMS manually on about 100 workstations.

Joy :)

Back to planning server virtualisation for the summer and decide whether to keep teaching and admin networks split or not

Keep working on Moodle 2.0 in the background as I need a new custom theme to match our existing Moodle \ web portal on 1.9

Reimage one or two broken PCs

Test out DPM and decide if it's worth dropping Backup Exec for

Upgrade GOLA client in last few rooms (their last upgrade trashed the installation so had to repair it manually via script)

Try and figure out how to get user data folders into a proper one share system rather than the mess it is now... that one is giving me headaches

Somewhere along the line also need to use up 3 weeks worth of leave between now and March as well!
