I've never seen the point in Facebook. My other half is on it all the time but I just don't get it. I use Email, phone, text and MSN to contact my friends. I have never seen the point in logging onto face book and seeing pictures of them and hearing their status updates. I understand why people do it to contact friends and family who they don't see that often.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials. I just scan it when it moans at me for not doing it. I know I should probably do it more often

Today has been a nice surprise for me. I found out this morning that there's an inset day at the school I'm at so no kids !! Teachers leaving at 12pm.. fantastic !! It means I can get so much more done than I expected.

It's snowing here in Rotherham. It's not settling on the roads or paths but parked cars are becoming covered and so are gardens, school field etc..

I didn't know that. I'll have a look to see if I can see that next time I'm at that school. It works ok now with the drive update but could be the newer version of the driver has that option disabled as default rather than the other way around. I'm trying to think of a situation where you'd want the wireless to start after log in

Ours have a sheet to sign to say they are going to look after it, not install any rubbish on it etc etc.. and that it's property of the school and if requested should be handed over imediately. That's all we have. What sort of document did you mean, which doesn't mention the kit at all?

We have similar problems. THere is only just enough network sockets for the amount of computers they have. To add the access points we had to add small switches to allow. I think you're right, I think it's the AP's that are causing the bottle neck. Which would explain why it's ok for staff but now when a class load log in. One option, although again not sure how practical in your situation, is to purchase a more beefy AP and have it with the trolley and then plug the trolley into the network. This is a problem though if you're running low on free network sockets

If they are all using the nearest AP to log on it could be the AP which is struggling under the amount of traffic. Not sure of a good way to test if this is the problem other than to either put more than one AP in the classroom to see if things improve or to test 15 in one room and 15 in another, at the same time and see if the same problems occur. We used to have 30 macbooks which authenticated against AD rather than OD. We only had 6 access points across the entire school ( primary school ) and they all worked without a fault

CNN did quite an interesting documentary about life inside Google. I think it was called Inside google, funnily enough. Didn't exactly blow me away but interesting non the less. Think it's a few years old now though

I've been working in Primary schools for about 18 months now. I have 6 of them. I was previously a technician in a couple of secondaries. I'm in the same boat, I have no ICT qualifications but am wanting to get them so I can move on. MCITP does sound like the best bet from what you've said and the information I've found on the net.

Have you tried rebooting the nearest AP? that you know it's going to be using, or the system itself ( demending on what and how big the wireless system is) could be its taking a long time to authenticate with the APs
