THE Met Office says there is a 60 per cent chance of heavy snow bringing parts of Plymouth a halt on Thursday and Friday.

 

They have issued a warning of severe or extreme weather.

 

Heavy snowfall is forecast for Plymouth and other parts of the South West before the weekend.

 

The Met Office says up to 20cm of snow will settle in parts of the region, with heavy falls in the city, and they say transport infrastructure will be hit.

 

In general, accumulations of five to 10cms of snow are expected but this could double in some areas.

 

This is the second big freeze of the winter and while Scotland, the North and the East bore the brunt of the first, this time the West is at the forefront of the weather system.

 

Ice, snow and freezing rain will sweep across the west of the country from Ireland early on Thursday.

 

Severe weather warnings are in place for 10 regions and temperatures are set to plunge to -10C.

 

Snow is likely to continue through the weekend and some parts of the country will see a White Christmas.

We had some, which was enough to keep me out of work for 2 days, but I'd like to wake up on Monday with about 2 foot!!!

We got off lucky with the last lot (if you count clear skies and -8 at night as lucky), but we are due a big dump of snow on Friday\Saturday now

We had heavy rain, 8 degrees when I set off for work, an hour later it was 2 degrees and snowing pretty heavily... It might still come :-P

It's snowing here in Rotherham. It's not settling on the roads or paths but parked cars are becoming covered and so are gardens, school field etc..

This is funny.. weather procliamed clearskies over night.. woke up to a few cm of snow, weather this morning stated no snow at all today but overnight theres due to be loads... just drve in through a blizzard and now the school is wondering wether to close as its still coming down!

I'm heaving a huge sigh of relief as OH has just returned from Australia for Christmas... he walked through the door at 8am. We had snow yesterday evening, but not enough to complicate things at Heathrow or on the M25 thank goodness.

 

He's noticing a slight difference in temperature!

No snow until 3am today, about 2 inches. My hometown is usually pretty bad, so I thought that the main roads would (as usual) be OK. Foolish.

 

The exit road (hill) I watched a Picasso go sideways out into a main road, then my Astra just let go and I honetly thought I was about to belt a wall. Recovered it.

 

After that the roads were tracks in the snow. Until I got to the hill out of the valley. Fiesta in front with wheels spinning, wouldn't go forwards, did end up sideways obstructing the hill. Traffic crawling down it, I couldn't move due to this fiesta, traffic backing up behind me...we were sat there a good 20 minutes.

 

Then a nice 4x4 flashed me out, and I was able to plod up the hill very gently, and plod into work at no more than 7mph. Fair few bent cars about..

 

Not sure how I'm going to get home - my backup route to avoid that hill (steep, cars parked both sides, not wide) is according to 6-7 of our staff "f*cking impossible to drive up, we could barely move".

 

I hate the snow.
