the problem with family guy is imo its gone off the boil.

What about futurama now its back

The new episodes of Futurama as not so great. The best one was the "eyePhone" episode. Apart from that it's not been the best episodes.

The trouble is that not enough people agree with you about the goodness of this show (eg me - I've never heard of it :-)) so the people who produce the show move on to something they think will make them more money.

You are right of course. But there was a time when shows like Firefly and FlashForward would have gotten a second season because the people behind the show really believed in it. These days if you don't get nelson ratings of the like not seen since multi-channel television was launched back in the 80's you're axed after only half a dozen episodes. I wonder how meny quality shows from the past wouldn't have made it past one season in todays market?

Walking dead was a good show but good lord the acting was sooo bad in parts.

Just remembered Boardwalk Empire, just finished on HBO in the states, absolutely fantastic series, been renewed for series 2 too woo! :D

I like Lie To Me* as well. Loads of people complaining about Tim Roth's eccentric acting in season 2 but I love it, hoping it doesn't get axed.

What? No love for Babylon 5: Crusades???

Okay, It's a bit old now but a prime example of a great show cut down halfway through a series...

it wasnt bad again it was a ratings thing though diddnt help that at least over here the timeslot changed almost every week

Just out of interest...what is it that makes you say that???

I love Family Guy...and haven't noticed any significant drop off

i just find it less and less funny on average and the repeating of the same joke again and again can get silly (like the run home peter one where he bangs his knee then theres the lois version of the same gag that wasnt that funny to start with.

Granted there are some good episodes recently but there seems to be more mediocre to poor ones

Some things everyone should be required to watch! :p

West Wing

Cheers

Frasier

Babylon 5

I also enjoy Drop the Dead Donkey, but as it was topical at the time, some of it has lost it's relevance unless you remember it. Still very funny though

+1 on West Wing. One of the best TV series I've had the pleasure to watch and Leo's funeral still makes me well up :(

It was missing something compared to the original B5. Especially when it hit it's stride during seasons 2-4, some of the best politcal drama ever filmed ;) But yes I got the Crusades boxset and it was stopped just at the moment it was starting to be come very good...

The Event

Best show on the tellybox at the moment and a worthy replacement to FlashForward. I'm just worrid that this to will be chopped before I learn who the aliens are and what the hell is actually going on.

V 2009

You're on about the Chelmsford based music festival, right? I saw the first episode and it seemed rushed and missed the point of the 80's original. The original was a good commentery on WWII with the Nazi undertones and plight od the Jews. The remake was Independance day stretched for as long as they could get away with.

If you want a good DVD boxset then, a blast from the past, Shogun with Richard Chamberlin is well worth a watch and you might learn to speak some Japenesse in the process ;)

Re: Crusade - there's some scripts floating around the interwebs that show that the series was about to become a lot more interesting.

I'll throw "Nowhere Man": a war photographer returns to his table at a restaurant to find that his life has been wiped out by a shadowy conspiracy. Only 1 season, but at least they got to a conclusion. "Profit": A Machiavellian young man seeks to take control of a company by any means necessary. Only 1/2 a season, but a good 'un.

Both were on R1 DVD, though may not be now.

Not much "new" that I'm really enjoying or would class as "awesome" that hasn't already been mentioned.

The Trip - BBC2

Although I have no love for either Steve Coogan, or Rob Brydon, I found it to be a very well acted, and touching portrait of 2 people travelling around. If you could get past Brydon and his impressions every 5 mins!

+1 for Breaking Bad.

Again, going for boxsets past, I also enjoyed both Highlander and Quantum Leap.

another vote for misfits and peep show. been catching up with both on 4od in recent weeks.

the second series of misfits in particular has been ace.

to throw one or two dramas/comedy in from yesteryear.

A Fatal inversion [bbc drama adapted from a ruth rendell novel aired in early 90s]

Comic Strip presents [four men in a car and supergrass being my favourites.]

Gideon's daughter [a two-part bbc drama, this time earlier in the noughties.]

Tripping over [soap/drama ran for one series on five]

the sci-fi stuff that a lot of people seem to like i just can't be arsed with. i think it's just individual taste, although amongst the imported american stuff Mad Men and Arrested development stand/stood head and shoulders in their respective genres...in my opinion ofcourse.

there used to be some great dramas/adapted novels on the bbc and itv. not so much nowadays.

Ditto that - I really enjoyed it - though the last ep leaves a lot "up in the air" - I was hoping for resolution.

Enjoyed The Shield and Justified too

The Shield was an amazing TV show. I recommend that to anybody. Think of it as The Bill on crack.

It is a very very hard hitting TV show. But wow, it's a roller coaster ride.
