Which IT Magazines Are You Subscribed To ?

after a quick nose in WH Smiths at lunch time looking at the vast array of PC and IT magazines I thought I would ask which ones you guys are subscribed to or pickup once a month/week and why ?

 

Me personally I go for PC Format, Custom PC and the odd weekly edition of Computer Active

Totally seconded - time spent reading the various blogs/news sites every morning is a much better way of staying informed

I just have an RSS feed to Tom's Hardware news and PC Pro news. I get the odd mag now and again if it's got something interesting in.

None, Do not see the point when the info is atleast 3 months out of date, and everything I need, or that is covered in the magazine is freely available online

None. I occasionaly buy one to scan through to try and keep up to date with what's happening in the big bad world outside these four walls! We used to get Network Weekly(?) delivered here, but that stopped a while ago (seems publishing has been suspended)

I was given a subscription to PC Pro when I left my last job and it was really good. Don't think I'll be renewing though. I find there is a lot of information that is not what I want to know. Might try another though...

I have a nice routine on a Saturday morning, a visit to the local cafe for breakfast and a cup of tea (or two) and a read of Micromart. I also still get Computing magazine, from a log running subscription.

 

I also get a few RSS feed, including Mozilla, Microsoft, Adobe and Dameware. But the one I'd say I read the most is Sophos Labs.

Closest I have is an RSS feed for TheRegister set up on my Kindle. I do occasionally buy computer magazines, but find they're usually too general to be of any real interest to me.

I pick up Linux Format on a semi regular basis, tutorials on things I might not think to try in the first place and some useful ideas. True there's very little I couldn't find online with some digging, but it's a nice read.

Used to get PC Pro monthly, but like someone else said I stopped finding it valuable. Too many of the articles eventually get repeated and there are only so many times I can read through a review of 15 different graphics cards or motherboards before it gets too dull.

 

That said if I was going to buy a one off PC Mag without subscribing PC Pro would be at the top of my list.

 

They also do a weekly podcast you can download for nothing.

I opened this thread keen to see what I was "missing out on" it seems I am not at all. I dont buy any computer mags, instead it is "VW camper mag" I got as a subscription or sailing related if I fancy a read away from the computer.

 

I am not a true geek to want to know which motherboard is better than the next. I am interested in keeping up to date with things though, so might grab a copy of PC Pro to see what it is like.

Linux Format

 

Is that actually much good? I ask because I was sick of all the Windows based mags doing articles on how to fix this or that and how to never have to worry about data loss etc...when basically half the articles were actually useless. I'm recently getting back into Linux and pointers would be helpful.

Yeah, plenty of reviews of software, side by side comparisons etc, and regular tutorials section with usually 6 tutorials ranging from gimp work to python and php programming. I've got just over a years worth of issues in my office as a very handy library should I ever need them (and I do use them quite a lot).

I gave up on subscriptions now, I looked at some again this weekend, but all information in all magazines is available online, and some is a near enough word for word copy and paste job of articles online that are 3 months old!! (Specifically PC Pro)

I receive the TechNet Flash newsletter to my inbox and it's pretty interesting and up-to-date despite being a little narrow minded. The scripting guy section has always been useful too.
