Well you will want a MK1 Edugeek Mug then as the Glass ones are beautiful works of art but are rather on the small side as you need all the help you can get to get it here for Christmas 2010 rather than 2020

I am toying with the idea of having a very nice local brewery do us a 'geek' beer. Each attendee will get a couple to take home + glass and we'll put a keg or two on in the evening

I remember last year thinking that the stand was a bit light on displays and branding, and whether that was intentional or not, I had an idea earlier for some displays on the stand this year and wondered what other people thought.

 

Basically, I was thinking about something to raise the profile of EduGeek, and educational geeks in general, amongst people who are not geeks themselves - i.e., your typical BETT attendee. My thinking was a series of display boards with information on the following sorts of topics:

 

A "Hosted Geek" solution

"Don't yet have your own Geek? Tap into our cloud-based Geek solution at no cost!"

 

Basically a rundown of how EduGeek benefits schools.

• Provides peer support
  
• Access to a wide range of expertise
  
• Sharing of best practices
  
• Direct access to supplier support channels (e.g. Smoothwall, Promethean, and others)
  

 

Your own Onsite Geek

"Having your own onsite Geek can actually save you money and provide best value!"

 

Examples of bespoke solutions people have implemented that have saved money vs. off the shelf, such as:

• Use of OpenFiler to build a custom SAN
  
• Use of Xibo instead of expensive digital signage
  
• Custom built IPTV
  

 

A free-range Geek is an effective Geek

"Some schools still keep their Geeks cooped up in cupboards with the servers, but the happiest and most effective Geeks are those allowed to roam freely in a stimulating habitat - your school!"

• Examples of how onsite IT staff can work with all areas of the school to help integrate IT into the curriculum

We, unfortunately cannot use the stand for commercial purposes (well, not blatantly) as we are actually a part of the BETT show itself. We shall, however, have a very large backdrop and some funky posters to give away

Nope. We're the official technical helppoint. Only explain what we do if they ask. What we do there is what we do here though, provide answers to questions for free no sales involved.

You would be surprised how hard it is to explain to some people that the stand is an information point and that advice is given for free, both on the stand and also on the forums.

 

Or you get a Saudi prince trying to by the site ...
