Well, the temperature has dropped in the past week here in the UK and autumn has defiantely gripped us good and sure, with the first widespread frosts due this weekend. So will we have a repeat of this?

Or something a bit milder this time? Baring in mind the Met Ofice predicted a mild winter last time around!

oooo pretty.

We've been making bets in my local on the likely hood of a white christmas in Hereford.

It's been so very close that past two years..

Our tortoise was still racing round the garden only a few days ago. I think he'll be in hibernation very soon judging by the weather forecast. Stiff Northerlies on the way. Possibility of snow in Scotland! Brrrr!

I love that satelitte image, got the hi-res version printed as a poster.

I did like the snow, love a proper winter rather than dull & drissle. May have to change my car for something 4wd if it continues though, it was a nightmare last year.

I also hope not. I hate driving in snow, and this time round I'll be doing the nursery run with daughter..talk about 100x more stress there. Plus last winter cost me £900 in heating.

Going to swap my car for a landrover defender. Im not getting stranded again.

The weather is only going to get worse, after all, heat is energy. We are heating up the atmosphere so putting more energy into the weather system. It is all to be expected. Just wait until the gulf stream stops and we run out of oil. We are well and truly screwed!

I can't wait for the entire country come grinding to a halt again.

You won't have to wait that long - the current lot of clowns in Parliment will see to that.......

There is an old county saying that lots of fruit in the hedgerows means a hard winter. At the moment there is a lot of fruit in the hedgerows.

Yep I think it will be a cold un. Can't make up my mind whether it will be easier, same or worse though. Part of me things worse, but that is a gut feeling so not based on anything except my cynical nature!

I'm already wearing a hat now when I walk to work. I don't usually end up wearing one until at least mid November, so I expect it'll be a harsh winter this year!

Someone did tell me a month or so ago, that we could have snow from about late october or early november, and it could be as much as we did in Jan!

That was fun that morning - the bottom of my car was scraping the snow as I, stupidly, tried to get to work.. gave up after witnessing 2 White vans and a Land Rover failing to get up a hill..

Heating went on last night, we have hardly any wind at the moment but the air is getting towards bitter. Makes me lean towards a harsher one then last year!

same - i've got my hat on when i walk to work, and put a jumper on between buildings - dont usually do that for a while longer yet.

heating went on in our house 2 days ago. if i open the windows it gets cold quickly in the office where i sit,

My prediction (and i'm no weatherman),

Late November we'll see snow somewhere in the county (england),

A white Christmas,

and a hot summer next year.

I can't believe my Mrs has just emailed me to say she's put the heating on. Why she can't put a jumper on and do some star jumps is beyond me. Heating? In October? Whatever next?

Next you'll be suggesting that she tie pieces of carpet to the bottom of your feet rather than laying carpet throughout the house, a la 'Viz'.
