Good winter or bad winter?

I see the first 'snow' icons are appearing on the met office site forcasts

We've got more grit than we know what to do with.

 

Earlier this year the LA ran out and couldn't fill our order, so we ordered from elsewhere. They clearly didn't cancel the order as it has just arrived... 10 months late... and we've got the left over from the stockpile we bought because the LA couldn't supply us.

Our school has taken delivery of 3 pallets of grit. Oh joy....

 

I prefer the summer, but dont mind driving in all weathers, its the other drivers that are a nightmare.

 

3 pallets?! How big is your school? We bought 10 bags here, as any more than that usually means we need to close anyway...

Yep. I used to take my Rover out in "Do Not Drive" warning snow conditions. Good fun, no other traffic, no visible roads/hedges...just "going to see Jem, got my phone and a shovel, might be back today or might not" to mum, and off...best snow practise there is, and quite relaxing when there are no other cars about. Until you end up in a hedge and have to dig the car out.

I bought some snow socks last year, they arrived days after the last of the stuff melted. I might get a chance to use them this year, but it will be a race to see if I change the car first! (Bet they don't fit whatever I buy)

I have some great arctic socks from my army days and Jane brought me some really wonderful Brasher socks (£20 a pair) a few years back. Nice and toasty

i think he meant the ones for the car but yeah nice thick pair of socks is advisable this time of year, got a few pairs from my help for heroes yomp last year

Indeed I did, these to be precise, but I too wear woolie socks when conditions dictate!

I see that snow is predicted everywhere except here - well we might get some: "possibly in the South West"

I never know quite where we are - either on the extreme western edge of the South East or the extreme eastern edge of the South West.

All I know is - whichever area DOESN'T get snow - that's where we'll be!

Southern pansies! Try 14 tonnes! (or was it 14 1/2 tonne bags... can't remember, //EDIT no I'm informed it was infact 14 tonnes//). And no I'm not kidding. And no we didn't go wild with it, only narrow walkways were cleared, people were still falling over and crashing cars and the likes.

 

 

On a serious though it does show how quickly some schools/areas close their doors, if the north of England and near enough all of Scotland did that we wouldn't be open most of the year!!!

all a load of rubbish to me. I live in East England, and the snow was bad yes, but the problem was lack of gritting. I didn't go in one day and got told off the next day for not trying, despite living on a normal day 30 minutes away, and the conditions outside my house being so bad the buses refused to come down my road. I made it in the next day, after a 2 hour journey....

 

Met office reports that east england has 'light snow' forcast for east england, max of 2 inches. I should get a good bit of it living on the chiltern hills, but probably not enough to warrant me not coming in (i live within 2 miles of where I work)

 

I suspect my trusty mountain bike will come out if it does snow. That's always fun in the snow!
