(although we are showing cover supervisors how to so they can do it next time)
rad Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 All the signs are glow in the dark.... do you have special printes to print glow in the dark
gibbo_ap Posted September 29, 2010 Author Report Posted September 29, 2010 All the signs are glow in the dark.... do you have special printes to print glow in the dark had not thought about that. the main factor is they want them printing in comic sans on beige paper. i have passed this on to another techy as i am physically unable to make any text comic sans)
JPS Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 A little more helpful than my last post; try this link: Health & Safety Sign Law - Safety Sign Supplies the UK's premiere source for safety signs
creese Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Comic Sans should be banned in schools. 1
bladedanny Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Comic Sans should be banned in schools. It should be banned everywhere.
creese Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 It should be banned everywhere. I thought it might have a use somewhere. Then I thought about it a bit and............ no it doesn't.
Arcath Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 There needs to be an episode of doctor who where mid way through the tardis flys off by itself and kills the guy that created comic sans before he creates it

SYNACK Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 There needs to be an episode of doctor who where mid way through the tardis flys off by itself and kills the guy that created comic sans before he creates it It'd probably be one of those fixed point in time things that could not be changed or something. Probably something like - without Comic Sans Daveros would not have been driven mad by poorly typeset greeting cards and so never created the Darleks therby throwing off the balance of the universe. 2

3s-gtech Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 We've been told they MUST be the the glow in the dark, plastic ones. I'd hold fire on doing anything until it's confirmed that you can make your own - this came from the fire safety officer.
6Foot2 Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Putting aside the glow in the dark requirement for a moment you could use this site to mock up some signs. Link: Online-Sign v3 fast free customised printable safety signs Creates the signs as downloadable PDFs with whatever text you choose to enter. 2

I can agree with using this site, I use it for making internal signs EG room out of bounds, Warning Fibre Optics here etc (not fire exit signs!) You would be ok with using them for Temporary Ones I would think though (put temporary sign on the bottom of the print out to ensure that if you get someone spying they realise its a temp not a permanent one)
plexer Posted September 29, 2010 Report Posted September 29, 2010 Ask your local fire service liason what the requirements are it's going to be governed by the The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and Health and Safety (Safety Signs & Signals) Regulations 1996 Ben

MatthewL Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Don't make you own, go out and purchase some proper ones, there is a ruling with regards to signs etc but I cannot find the document, it was an act brought in in 2007 if I remember correctly. Your local council should have a Fire Safety advisor who can advise on the issue, failing that I notice you are in Staffs, contact Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service and they will be able to advise. I notice you are in Cheadle, the fire station there is crewed by retained firefighters who are not always on station so if you though I will pop down you will be out of luck, they do drill though on a Tuesday evening between 7 and 9pm. 1
powdarrmonkey Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 All the signs are glow in the dark.... do you have special printes to print glow in the dark Not if you have maintained illuminated signs...
Admiral208 Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 Is this really your job??? Isn't this the responsibility of the person in charge of Health and Safety at your school?? It seems to me that we technicians are becoming more and more office typists who get asked to do things because people think 'I need something doing on the computer, Ill ask someone in IT because they can do it quicker than I can'.
K.C.Leblanc Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 (edited) Can you imagine a death threat in CS, you couldn't take it seriously. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh On a serious note fire signs are not an ICT technician's job. This thread demonstrates it quite nicely, since you've come here to ask other ICT techs what the regs are. And none of us really seem to know. Edited September 30, 2010 by K.C.Leblanc
creese Posted September 30, 2010 Report Posted September 30, 2010 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh What did I do??????
