Interactive White Board suitable for hall

I've been looking at this very thing

 

The best suggestion (for us) would be a large dropdown screen, projector and one of those tablet thingys for the interactive bits. The proper name escapes me at the mo

 

That would cost us approx £3500 - most of that is the fitting and extra spec projector.

I don't see why to present in a hall you'd want to be having to go up to the screen at all.

 

We have a large screen in our hall with a good lumens nec projector.

 

Staff using it can use the connected dvd player and sound system in the hall for dvd's and music or plug their laptops into the vga lead for presentations.

 

If you had a fixed pc with a wireless keyboard/mouse such as a gyration setup would that be enough?

Ben: that's exactly what we have. The screen is motorised and can be operated from a remote fob, the computer (in a cupboard/booth) is connected to the projector at the back of the hall. If it's a long distance from the projector to the screen you'll have to pay more money for a more-capable projector. We have a wireless presenter for remote operation.

Screen solutions seem best, but if you want an IWB, have a look at the new Smart Wide Screen solutions, they look like a very good product for a hall.

Thats a school after my own heart. They are ok things IWBs but teachers and a lot of schools have been brainwashed into thinking they are the bee all and end all of teaching and they must have them!

 

At my last place one person demanded a board or they would leave, they were told that as they got a laptop they wouldn't get a IWB for another 2 years, so they handed there notice in then and there on the spot. Stupid NQTs is all I can say on that one (not saying all are like that or anything), this one had been told by her tutor that schools should have them and you should expect one within the first 18 months of your arrival otherwise the school is not worth your time as you cannot teach without one. When ever I have helped in class or done INSET training I have never used an IWB unless it was IWB training.

Same with ours, and I frequently mention it and it gets mumbles and grumbles, yet there are still things dying and not being replaced because moneys spent on IWBs. Last time I mentioned it we seemed to have a drive to use them, "use" does not mean just clicking on start, all programs, MS Office, MS Word 2003. Thats is not justification for an £1800 Interactive Learning System!!!!

Still buying new projectors/IWB's but can't afford to replace ancient equipment !

again very few actually teachers seem to use the IWB - but for some reason they think its necessary for the projector to work? Personally I'm coming more to the conclusion that IWB is an oversold gimmik - a giant mouse that would be better spent on a touchscreen tablet.

Perhaps it would be worth considering a dual purpose IWB, as some of those using the hall (outside speakers, new members of staff) may not be aware of how to use an IWB.

 

Hitatchi Cambridge do a ceramic coated IWB, which can be used as an IWB or a dry-wipe board. If anything it means when someone new to the school / an outside uses a whiteboard pen on the whiteboard it doesn't write it off.

I personally think a wireless graphics tablet and Projector & Audio setup.

£600 at the most for a projector, speakers and fitting inc power provisions

£300 for a wireless tablet (cannot remember the make, wasnt a Wacom though, more generic but had good reviews)

 

So ~£900 probably less VS around £1900 for the full IWB solution. I know which I would rather have, and do have in some rooms.

Could also look at device have seen it fits onto top of normal whiteboard and turns it into a iwb and then means have iwb almost anywhere including the hall..

Are you thinking of a Mimo, or one of those full sheet overlays like I've seen for Plasma Screens (Think Smart make one for Plasma Screens)

We're going with an alternaitve to the IWB for our SEN dept. Basically a decent sized LCD tv with ultr small footprint computer connected to a SMART wirless slate. That way the teachers can still use their resources they have setup in smart's software and the department can have interactive functionality.

This is much better for them as was pointed out, there isnt enough room to fit a projector and a 77 inch IWB

sorry but the school there looks more like a nightmare to me, substandard equipment- i.e laptops, substandard networking- i.e wireless, not to mention you are 'frying' everyone in the building with it.

I would hate to work at that place, all you would be doing was packing laptops, for return to base etc, arranging repairs.

And then you've not only the teachers telling you the machine won't work for some obvious reason, you'll have the kids moaning as well.

You can put Interactive boards in school halls, but if sports are played in the halls then they could get damaged. Promethean or Polyvision boards have slightly better protection than smart, but I would still not recommend putting one is a school hall.

 

Other alternative are to either have a motorised screen which is hidden safely away when not in use, Or

 

If you have a good flat wall, then paint it white and just project onto the wall.
