Most schools would normally have a few suppliers which they already use, if not then look at some of the quote generating systems like OpenDNS Their are alot of good suppliers such as ourselves who can not get added to 'becta frameworks, catalyst approved suppliers' through no fault of our own, but because they stopped adding new suppliers along time ago. This could mean going through 'becta frameworks, catalyst approved suppliers' you end up with the same companies, who may not always give you the best price and service. Good luck in your search. Under a standard warranty screens are not covered as these are classed as accidental damage. Screens cost the same as the laptop in some cases as you have just found out. I would write to HP complaint department and give them a timescale to return or replace your laptop (7 or 14 days). You should never be without a broken product for over 3 months and if they can't find the laptop then they should replace it. Always remember when buying from Dell never accept the first quote they give you! Different account managers offer different prices. I was quoting a School on Dell computers last week and told a few resellers, we all got different quotes back for the same kit. One reseller told me he was a channel partner, but he was still quoted £800 more than me for the same kit and he had used Dell for years. My advice is get quotes from some of your trusted resellers as well as Dell and you will be surprised at the difference in pricing for the same products. You can put Interactive boards in school halls, but if sports are played in the halls then they could get damaged. Promethean or Polyvision boards have slightly better protection than smart, but I would still not recommend putting one is a school hall. Other alternative are to either have a motorised screen which is hidden safely away when not in use, Or If you have a good flat wall, then paint it white and just project onto the wall. The Mitsubishi XD500U is Similar in specification to the Optoma 727. They are both excellent projectors and ideal to schools. Optoma 727 won Computer best buy award which is always a good sign. LCD do control a large section of the market mainly because the older versions of of DLP projectors only used a 3 colour wheel which produced poor colours. Especially primary colours. The new DLP projectors use a 5 colour wheel which maximises colour accuracy an improves colour quality. Both the two projectors mentions use the 5 colour wheel so will produce good colour quality.

Having a PC is a good idea, but I would still recommend laptops. Smart have launch the 'Gowire cable' which plugs into the USB port of the Smartboard. You can instantly connect your laptop to the USB cable and can use the Smart board, no install, just plug and play. This allows any teacher entering a classroom and plug in laptop and use the Smart board without any problem and fuss. With the quote 'Smart boards too fagile', i would disagree: Smart board do have a softer material to promethean, but these are not fagile and of a hard wearing material. If someone goes out of their way to damage a Smart board, then they could damage any brand of Interactive Whiteboard if they wanted too. david

Depends on the School, both are very good manufacturer of interactive Whiteboards. Primary School's usually prefer Smartboards and Secondary Schools generally opt for Promethean. If a School has used one type of board then they tend to stick with same board. Do you currently have either Smart or Promethean Boards? I would recommend Smart over Promethean, due to me being Smart certified and have no problems with the software. Version 10 of Smart is also an improvement. hope this helps

£800 for a Interactive whiteboard is not very much. Have you ever thought about lease to allow your School to spread the costs. Other than that you could look at buying a smaller Interactive whiteboard as they do come in 48", but this would depend on how many children would be using it. They cost just over £620. Projectors start from around £250. Which would mean bare minimum for new kit would be around £870 without installation. Ideally you should be looking to have around £1200 to get a bigger Interactive whiteboard and better projector. Hope this helps

If you don't want filters you should go for DLP projectors, as they use chip technology and not mirrors so don't need cleaning. Would recommend Optoma 720 no filter projector which we sell for around £370 or Optoma 727 which cost's about £50 more. They are alot quieter than Sanyo, come with 3 year warranty and should fit in your current cage as they are similar size. Difference between 727 and 720 is 727 has password and is XGA. Hello Witch, Short throw projectors are good if image sizes below 2 metres, but would not recommend in School hall. Why? Expensive Too low, especially if sports are played in hall. even with protection cage can get damaged. Standard ceiling mounted projectors are generally better suited to school halls. As they are higher up and can be mounted on a motorised arm to move higher when not used.
