Put the netbook remix on my girlfriends EEPC 701 the other day.

 

Really impressed, and she loves it too.

@powdarrmonkey For me, it's the responsiveness of the GUI (particularly Gnome) which keeps me with Windows - it's just quicker.

1) Wouldn't be able to program in VB.net with a *nix distro

2) Wouldn't be able to manage our RM CC3 network (without having to constantly remote into the server everytime I wanted to make a change)

3) Wouldn't be able to design Flash apps (AFAIK) with *nix

1) Same issue here, as we have a load of custom c# apps running on Windows. I'd love to move to Ubuntu but just can't do it.

I agree with Localzuk there, I personally think Javascript is a better alternative but it's what your comfortable with or prefer I guess.

Agreed with the HTML5/JS comments i loathe flash it does nothing but annoy me on a day to day basis, be it that {insert cr**y software} doesnt work with the new version or that something has come along that requires a version higher than the MSI version I currently have deploying. Id also like to have a day where at some point chrome doesnt pop up and say "Flash player has chrashed"

 

Im loving 10.04 visually its nicer than 9.10 but rather annoyingly the machine i use every day and i do all my personal coding and web development on decided that after updating from 9.10 gwibber wouldnt work. so ive now got the "me menu" that does naff all cause i cant setup my twitter and facebook accounts in it

 

It manages to boot very quickly on my netbook and gets me into chrome in under a minute whch is nice.

The problem is, the MS implementation of VB.Net and c# is a lot more complete than any of the open source versions. Unless you have a completely *nix network, it seems odd to use a different OS to the one you're supporting.

Not that I know of, but then the main part of using flash isn't graphical either - it is actionscript.

You can kind of, but any exisiting projects you have made would take a lot of work (depending on their complexity) to port to Mono, and if they rely on any ActiveX controls you can forget it!

I am liking it, am using it on a couple of test servers i have here and seems to be running fine (but then so does most ubuntu server installs apart from 9.04 where you can get a grub2 error!)

 

I am also using it on one of my desktops at work plus also my laptop.

 

The main part my sister liked about it was the fact it was a purple theme!!

Actually, if you install ie6 (check out ies4linux) in wine and point it at https://nameofyourcc3server/ you can access the management console very easily.

 

You can also capture .img of your build floppies and subsequently rewrite them in linux.

I'm an old stick in the mud and liked the legacy grub Grub2 gave me a few headaches as I hadnt encountered it before. There are enough forum posts from proper bearded people that got me through it.
