Print Manager Plus 5.* - Credit update brainfarted

Recommended Posts

For our sins, we run PMP v 5.0.0.23 which is usually reasonably inoffensive. However the 3-monthly credit update that would have happened early this morning decided to add stupid amounts of extra credit.

So instead of £2.00, added £50

instead of 50p, added £12.00

instead of £1.00, added £20

etc, doesn't appear to be a theme or factor of wrongness

The print server is running 2003. Clock and date are correct (not gone bonkers). I've just reset the credit manually to what it should roughly be.

I'm considering turning off automatic updates until I work out what caused it.

[edit: I have done, the bloody thing has started incrementing credit again]

So... wtf? Is this a known issue? It hasn't happened before AFAIK

Glad it's not just me. My server is scheduled for patching and a few tweaks this evening, so I'll poke pmp a bit and see if it generates a useful error.

We moved away from PMP and over to PCounter for that very reason as we could not get the credit facility to work.

I got in touch with them and they told me it would be in the next release, well that was 2 updates ago and for my sins they advise me that a brand new version is going to be out in 2007 which is far better than what we had.

No thanks

PCounter is working just fine, ooh and restriction on number of copies (not pages) works in PCounter

Saying that though, I just applied a change to the whole of year 11 to give them unlimited printing for the ?mock exam and it destriyed their entries in the database. I managed to resolve it after an hour trying to figure out why they could not print and deleted their account from PMP and re-added them.

So careful if you make a big change to a year group it could screw the data for them.

we went from PCounter to PMP and never looked back.

Everybody sing along now:

Looking back over my shoulder

I can see that look in your eye

I never dreamed it could be over

I never wanted to say goodbye

Looking back over my shoulder

With an aching deep in my heart

I wish that we were starting over

Oh instead of drifting so far apart

Everybody told me you were leaving

Funny I should be the last to know

Baby please tell me that I'm dreaming

I just never want to let you go

Looking back over my shoulder

I can see that look in your eye

Turning my heart over and over

I never wanted to say goodbye

I don't mind everybody laughing

But it's enough to make a grown man cry

Cos I can feel you slipping through my fingers

I don't even know the reason why

Every day it's a losing battle

Just to smile and hold my head up high

Could it be that we belong together

Baby won't you give me one more try

One more try

Looking back over my shoulder

I can see that look in your eye

I never dreamed it could be over

I never wanted to say goodbye

Looking back over my shoulder

Oh with an aching feeling inside

Cutting me up, deeper and deeper

Fills me with a sadness that I can't hide

Looking back over my shoulder

I can see that look in your eye

I never dreamed no no it could be over

I never wanted to say goodbye

Looking back over my shoulder

I can see that look in your eye

Hehe not yet, I still find it far better than pcounter, hopefully they will fix this issue soon. If it is an issue that is, I have found no complaints of similar behaviour :)

just checked consol again.

In last 24 hours our Year 11s have had £2280.00 added to their accounts!!

It is set to add £40 once a month on the 1st !! 8O

Have tried full reinstall but it doesn`t help!

WEIRD or what!!!???

Posted

continued.....

Now up to £2320.00!!!!

so, instead of adding £40.00 on the first of every month, it adds £40.00 every hour!!!

so the workaround would be to set it to add as follows:

Average of 30 x 24 = 720 hours per month.

£40 divided by 720 = £0.055555555555555555555555555555556

so if I set it to add £0.055555555555555555555555555555556 per month it will actually add this each hour, totalling approx £40.00 per month!

Sigh :pottytrain4: :pottytrain5:

Is this a Microsoft product by any chance? :p

Nope, ............. but I`ve a horrible feeling that it might be a MS update that broke it!!!

Hmmm, I wonder if a BIOS update would fix it?

Wouldnt it be nice if we could flash the BIOS of planet earth and fix all the problems in the world?!?!

:D

Yeah I've got a webcam and a laptop bag (all I need now is a laptop to put in it ) from MS - might as well get something from 'em!

But that doesn't make them a good company or to say that their business ethics are right.

Well, I did participate in beta testing the last 2 major versions of MSN Messenger. Even though they still haven't taken on board my suggestion the first time round for improvement. But that's another thread entirely.
