Don't panic we are not going anywhere. Russ has brought it to my attention that Dragonflycms is now dead in the water, or so it feels, with no major releases in over a year and no patches\updates since February. Their site is giving nothing away and the forums are shut. It does not look good.

To this end I have decided that we should rebuild EduGeek in a way that suites us. This will be done once we have a dedicated server (in the new year, once the sponsorship money arrives), and I reckon we should assemble a team of our members to do it.

Mambo Or Joomla are my current favorite starting points with a Beehive forum. If there are any volunteers who wish to put forwards their talents on this or if there are features you would like to see then please let us (well, Russ) know.

I noticed Dragonfly seemed dead as the last posts were dated 2005, so am now looking seriously at e107. It seems to be one of the strongest on the block at the moment, with the exception of Joomla and phpnuke. I believe Mambo is merging with another cms which is causing a few problems - I don't know much about that.

e107 is very similar to Dragonfly though from what I can see although the documentation is a little sparse in some areas it is quick and easy to administer.

Let know what you may need my knowledge is very limited at the mo but happy to lend a hand if I can. :)

I use E107 on two sites and the latest version (released last week) is a big improvement, it seems to be fairly well supported through their forums.

It may not be for everyone but it can't hurt to try a local install and see what you think.

alan-d is right the documentation is a little sparce at times but there is plenty on help from the comunity.

Though not new to website design, I am new to Joomla, but since around July have been developing two school websites using it. There are people on here much more experienced then me using this CMS, but i'd be willing to help if you needed it.

I'm willing to help with some of my coding expertise but I guess it's worth pointing out that I'm based primarily around phpBB2 at the moment.

Got code hacks I've written for calendars, download managers and a links/address directory all at http://www.snailsource.com if they might be useful..

Question you need to ask yourself though is how much you want to base things around a CMS..

For what it's worth though I'd avoid phpnuke as the history has been less than stunning security wise.

As I've explained to the mods already. The new forum will be Beehive. You can have a good look at it in action at http://www.tehforum.co.uk It has many benifts, mainly that all topics and recent posts can be viewed at the same time as posting yourself. In a forum such as ours where there are hundreds of posts per day it is great for keeping track of things.

Please keep phpBB2!

Sorry, one of the major gripes I get in my PMs and feedback emails is that phpBB does not give out enough info from the interface. For teachers it becomes a nightmare just looking for a recent post. Beehive overcomes this restriction.

Personally I have no problems with the "View posts since last visit" link - unread posts are orange and so on ...... what other info from the interface are you referring to?

I dont mind these either, just the unread post cookie needs adjusting as if i get a little click happy and close too many tabs at once by accident most other forums i use when i rush back in seconds and hit unread posts it gives me the same list i got a minute since but this one is gone and no new posts, so it makes it a longer job if i get click happy by accident.

Options such as being able to view complete threads in a heirarchy, with the unread posts in bold ... the ability to quickly link RSS feeds to a single thread ... fine tuning of the search facility so it can integrated in both the forums and main site ... allowing for 'posts since ... ' to include last day, last week, last hour (hey ... we are that usy sometimes!)

These are just a few for starters.

In truth I'm biased towards phpBB2 but I'm looking to port my code as version 3.x comes out sometime in the next few months so I'd be interested to see how Beehive works out.

If people want to help with anything please pm or email me with areas want to help out.

I am currently doing all project management stuff for 'edugeek 2.0' (yes it is that big).

What I will do is appoint someone to head each area up so someone will be in charge of web development, someone else in charge of moving certain content across etc etc.

Idea of little old me ;) managing whole thing and making sure everything gets done etc...
