Batman Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Well it's that time of year again when the seasonal cyclists get back on their bikes. Anyone been out and about? I've seen loads of road bikes at the weekend! Got mine out again today... don't get to ride much these days, I normally cycle all year round but circumstances have prevented it this year. Was going to see friends tonight without my wife so didn't need the car for a change . Did twelve very hilly miles and now my bum is sore, need more practice!
WithoutMotive Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 My bike has been in the shed and hasn't seen the light of day for going on two years. I really must do something about that.
quiet_andy Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I've been out a few times recently. Nearly clocked up 100 miles so far, which is really good for me.
kearton Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 My bike has been in the shed and hasn't seen the light of day for going on two years. I really must do something about that. snap :/
mjs_mjs Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 yeah I've been cycling to work for about 2 weeks on and off ( about 4 times i think) when i don't catch a lift off someone else. thats about half a mile each way... i used to cycle alot (easily clocking 40-60 KM a week) but my knees started to hurt so i gave it up.
tmcd35 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 You've only just got your bikes out !?! I finally started cycling to work a couple of weeks ago (forced by a broken clutch - bloody cars). 15miles each way. Not doing it every day yet - I think I need a new saddle first (I'm also getting numb in the nether regions ). Got a few orgainised rides coming up as well - Isle of White on May Bank Hols weekend, 50 miler around Clacton mid-May and (I don't know what possessed me into signing up for this) a 100miler around north norfolk coast (Norwich 100) on June 6
Robot Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I'm cycling to work every day on my new bike and loving it! Its a bit busy around the city centre though so I have to be on my toes.
laserblazer Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I had plans to cycle the canal towpath to see how close we are to getting it up and running. It was supposed to be 2008 but there's been one setback after another. It should make a difference to our little town having canal boats travelling to and forth again. It will create a nice little loop from Worcester on the Worcester Birmingham canal, along our new section to the Severn and then back to Worcester. Anyway, I'm in school instead, trying to sort ot this truecrypt problem, which I think must be BIOS related.
elsiegee40 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Snow and then a prolonged hacking cough have forced my temporary retirement from cycling. Must get a new back tyre as well!
nicholab Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Finally after two puchers I replace my rim tape on both wheels and I can get back cyciilng laughing at the traffic jam!! I had two weeks of form cycling over Easter.
Sarconia Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I'd cycle around but it'd only take me about hmm... 3mins to cycle to work. I'm not sure if it'd be worth getting out my helmet and super-bright flourescent yellow cycling jacket just for that... I might as well just carry on walking everywhere.

tmcd35 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I what on of these Ortlieb Office Bag 2 nice! Do you think I can convince the school to buy me one?
sidewinder Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Cycled a few times in the holidays but havent started in term time yet as ive been too lazy to get up any earlier...will soon change though Need to get my bike sorted though, after a winter sat in the garage there are only a few gears I can be in that dont click incessently (what causes that anyway?) and the brakes are, well not great
WithoutMotive Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace LOL. I did the opposite and got on it. I've been cycling every night since Saturday. Quite proud of myself.
mossj Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Been biking since September and sold my car in Feb, can't say theirs been a day yet that I regret it. Just bought a Specilized Allez as my 'summer bike' to replace my winter fixed gear (Specilized Langster)... So far the new SPD Cleats are proving interesting especially in rush hour traffic... Our county council is running a "Log It" scheme as well, so I can win prizes - John M | Leicester Cycle Challenge | CTC Challenge For Change
pooley Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 I have just (this week) started cycling to work, about 5 miles each way. I thought I was dying on Monday (lack of excersize) but am getting used to it. Not sure if I'll do it in the rain though !!
tmcd35 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Not sure if I'll do it in the rain though !! Got to admit I wimp out if rain is forcast. Did get caught out about 5 mile from home the other day, thankfully it wasn't a down poor just a few spots. I seem to be doing 2 days a week at the moment. Would love to have the time/energy to get that closer to 5 days.
WithoutMotive Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 I've started using MapMyRide.com to keep track of where I go and how I'm doing. Really useful site with a handy iPhone app to track as you go. Been good to inspire me to keep going.
tmcd35 Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 I've started using MapMyRide.com to keep track of where I go and how I'm doing. This site, Cycle Routes UK - Cycle Route Planner, is also pretty useful for discovering new routes in your area and planning/mapping routes you do/want to do.
Joh619 Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 I haven't used my bike for about 10 years :S But then I did walk into work today as it looked so nice and sunny. Thing is, it only takes me about 10-15 mins to drive in as its not that far and there's no traffic at all, so it takes me a lot longer to walk. Need to get the bike sorted, but I just don't have the motivation!
dezt Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 I started back on the bike during the holidays, notched up 32 miles on the canal towpath one day, also biked it to work a few days when the car was in for repairs. Sods law though, the bike has had to go back to the shop for repairs now and also has a puncture, it's only 8 months old, can't believe it needs repairs already
webman Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 I'm in a similar situation as Sarconia, it takes about 10 mins to walk to work, so almost pointless cycling to work for that short distance. Plus I don't have a bike. The other places I travel to are too far away for cycling or very costly and inefficient using public transport.
e_g_r Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Been cycling 22 miles round trip all year round for the last 2 years (appart from laundry refresh bus trips and the odd time i need a car for meetings). just rode into the side of a bus today for some strange reason
