Seriously though, we have, alright, Shaun has, been working long and hard at this for a verylong time. He's gone to bed for a bit now and there is still the odd random bug which will be sorted out over the next 24 hours. If you find one plese post it in the site errors forum (EduGeek.net Site Problems).

We have moved up to vBulletin v4.0 and it has lots of funky new features, in fact, too many for my sleep deprived brain to list, but just look at the blogs to get the general idea. Several custom features that Shaun had created for the old site will be coming back once he's had a rest, so please give him time and don't complain about missing features.

As VB 4.0 is now a full CMS system it also goves us scope for 'proper' news and reviews sections, so please bear with us as we sort these out, and expect a funky competiton tomorrow to celebrate the launch of the new site. Hopefully the prize will be either a PS3 Slim or an Android based phone, until then enjoy and have a play with all of the toys the site now has.

Great work Shaun and all who were involved in creating the new EduGeek. Thank you for your efforts.

The competition sounds epic also :)

Looks great! I'm liking the way the quick reply box pops up directly below whichever post you want to reply to - multi quote's pretty cool too

Only issue I've found so far is submitting posts appears to be a bit slow

No, Shaun will be awake later and fixing missing components.

looks good although one question:

how do i get a list of my subscribed threads? < this was my main method of checking threads i had replied in lol.

I don't like it. I hope it's just a case of having to get used to it, but first impressions are that it isn't 'clear' enough. Everything seems to flow into everything else (which is great for a normal website, but I don't think it suits a forum). I prefer the 'modular' theme that the old version had.

Also, I don't like that the latest 10 posts aren't shown on the very first page - I hope this is a feature that will return.

The site flows because it is no longer just a forum. It is a full blown CMS system which we intend to use to it's fullest. News, reviews and lots of other goodies in the pipeline, and all, ofcourse free to you, our members. Once we have ironed out the bugs and got the old modules working again (top 10 posts, eye spy etc) we can begin work in earnest.

Good morning,

It's 8:50 and a new dawn, both for today and for the Edugeek site. The sun is out on both!

Change is always risky but congratulations to all those involved. Nobody likes change especially without a period of trial first. I like it - but do agree with HT that some features will be missed. Yes I know they are coming back - so it isn't a problem.

I'll take a good look around when I get into work later (yes a teacher in school over Easter!!).

Good luck and I hope the new design brings even more EduGeekers to the party.

I understand where you are going with this - but I'm just stating my opinion. If I'm perfectly honest the new theme gives me a bit of a headache to look at. It hurts my eyes.

Maybe if the forum part of the site could have a 'modular' theme similar to the old one that would keep me happy? :p

Wow I thought I stayed up late with this but clearly Shaun was up till 5am EEK! I made it till 4am and decided as I had work at 8am that I should probably get some sleep!! Repeating what I said last night to you Shaun, Congratulations on a great new forum and setup for us Shaun.

There are more themes (colour schemes) at the bottom of the page, I know it's not exactly what you are after but you will find one that is easier on the eyes!

On another note, one plan we have is to provide 'how to' sheets. We will rpovide a document template that you can download and fill in the step by step instuctions of any task (including screen shots\photos). These documents will be tagged with the relevant area of technical interest and linked to those forums. Anoyone completeing 5 documents will be granted 'EduGeek Writer' status. Your sheets will carry your name as author and, again, be free of charge for members. We think that this system is better than the wiki as it allows for a permanent copy to be retained by members. Hopefully thsi system willbe ready to roll within the month.

iSpy will be added back soon. Right now we are running a *light* vbulletin 4 to allow for potential issues to be discovered without adding all the extras that could cause issues.

Also there are a few new tabs to come.
