mattx Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) Sorry to report that Gerby died today - he was just over 3 years old. He enjoyed the fact he had lots of internet followers & will miss you all. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4005/4413035779_a653b7afe3.jpg Edited March 29, 2010 by mattx
bizzel Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Poor fella. I tuned in a few days ago (first time I noticed the link in your sig) and he was still looking alright. 1
RingOfFlame Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Awwww love him. He will be running in the big hamster wheel in the sky. 1
mattx Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 I treated him quite a bit over the last few weeks but today he was really quite ill and had another tumor - he struggled to get to the platform he sits on to see me when I get home so I thought the best thing to do was to take him to the vets.....
maniac Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Oooowwwww, poor thing. 3 years is pretty good for a Gerbil thou. Strange how you get so attached to such a small creature - I had gerbils for many years when I lived at home. 1
jcs808 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 (edited) Peace Out Gerby Edited March 29, 2010 by jcs808 1
elsiegee40 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I'm sad for you mattx Three years is a good innings for a gerbil, but I remember being devastated when mine died... I had two, Bubble and Squeak, they both made it to 3 as well. 1
muppet Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I'm so sorry mate. We've only had our Gerbs for just over a month but I know how attached the kids (and me if I'm honest) have got to them, so goodness knows how you're feeling. 1
witch Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 So sorry to hear that- he lived to a good age and he had a lovely life, so be sad he is gone but happy that he was here.. Took one of my guinea pigs to the vets today - he has bladder stones and an infection, apparently. Poor Midnight Squeak.. You get so attached, don't you? Go in peace, Gerby 1
tech_guy Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I'm sorry, Matt. We shouldn't get so attached to our pets but we do. I still haven't got over having our two very elderly dogs put to sleep and that was over six years ago. RIP Gerby. Hope your kids are okay. 1
AngryTechnician Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Gerby was the inspiration for the internal gerbil-cam we now have at my school that watches the gerbils in the senior biology lab. RIP. 1
EduTech Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Sorry to here that matt, i did tune in a few times and he was funny to watch good age though, you clearly looked after him well RIP Gerby James. 1

mattx Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 My oldest was quite upset this evening, came down after bedtime quite teary asking me for a picture of him to remember him by [ and with all the kind words that have been posted this evening I think it will be nice for him to read those so I shall print them on the photo for him too ]
GrumbleDook Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Getting over pets is hard, and my thoughts are with your family ... like others here it hit me when I lost pets ... the last one being the family dog (at my Mum's) and I've not had one since. Having pictures is good though ... something that can always bring a smile to your face ... even if it is with a tear. 1
Little-Miss Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I had a hamster put to sleep when i was 19, i cried all the way home! Last year i lost my best Hamster ever, even my friends were sad. Gerby was also the inspiration for DexterCam... 1
danrhodes Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Poor Gerby, best to put pets out of their pain though! When is Gerby v2 coming along then? D
Hightower Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Aww, disappointing. Used to click on Gerby-Cam every view days to see how he was doing. Sorry Mattx
