Dos_Box Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 (edited) Well, I'm 40 in a week or so's time so I though I'd best get something nice. After several weeks of watching Autotrader one came up. A Lexus RX300. It's an immaculate 2002 Model with only 40k on the clock, a full Lexus service history and leather interior. For £5000 Now all that remains is to get the Parrot MKi9200 fitted so I can have Bluetooth and iPod connectivity and a gas conversion. I hopefully pick it up in a weeks time. It was a real Chelsea tractor too, from Chelsea. Looks like it had never left inner London! Time to introduce it to the Pennines and Cumbria I think http://images.automotive.com/reviews/images/02lexusrx300.jpg Edited March 25, 2010 by witch sorry God - I had to do it - it's BOUGHT not BROUGHT!
bossman Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 @Dos_Box: I hope you've got plenty of money as there will be new legislation coming into force soon which will virtually outlaw four wheel drive vehicles off the road by way of road tax hikes which will be massive and only the rich and the daft will be able to run them (which one are you).
Mcshammer_dj Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Now all that remains is to get the Parrot MKi9200 fitted so I can have Bluetooth and iPod connectivity I have one of these in my car and the voice recognition is really not as good as it could be but everything else works fine

tmcd35 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Isn't that a toyota in a posh frock Hey, nothing wrong with Toyota's - I drive one!
creese Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I just love the car adverts where a family is driving along an empty mountain road, drive at speed through an empty forest, waft across some rugged land, park in an empty wilderness (like the picture above) and immediately start kayaking. Where are these places? Empty mountain roads? Try South Africa, the Maluti range or the Drakensbergs. I did 400Km in a morning last month and probably saw a dozen cars, outside the towns.
Hightower Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Looks like 'God' doesn't give two thoughts about the environment then..... mind you, you have to be 'God' to stop one of the damn things when the breaks fail. I bought a 53 plate Astra 1.7 CDTi in January, 85k, £650. Bargain! Oh, and carrying on from the 'Pet Hates' thread, Dossy has called this thread brought instead of bought 1
ZeroHour Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Hey, nothing wrong with Toyota's - I drive one! at high speed The road tax is okay if your car is reg'ed before March 2004 as the max bracket is K then.

creese Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 You're quite right. Loads of adverts on British telly are filmed in Capetown. If you have a keen eye for detail, you can tell: the scenery looks a bit British, but not 100%, and the sun looks 'wrong' - it's too high and bright for the UK, the shadows are too short. It's a great place to drive, except for the potholes. One thing I noticed was, no sunroofs and no rear washer/wipers.
Hightower Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Oh, and carrying on from the 'Pet Hates' thread, they're brakes, not breaks. Well played that man
Dos_Box Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 A Lexus? Isn't that a toyota in a posh frock One of the reasons I wanted one is the reliability. The tax is quite minimal and a gas conversion lowers it further IIRC. Anyway, it's a top spec car for pocket money prices, and as I'm such an old git I won't hack off the youngsters by telling you how much I pay for a years insurance (oh, alright I will, it's £260 fully comp).
witch Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Wow - edugeek must be doing really well if that is pocket money to you
tmcd35 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 One of the reasons I wanted one is the reliability. Er, you have been watching the news? Actually I think Toyota's (and by association Lexus) are solid cars. Mine is 12 years old and the only reason it's at the menders is my p*ss poor driving habits.
ljlbray Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 you can now be this cool sube4ruedas - videos de coches - Spot Lexus RX I've got to MOT my 14 year old Peugeot 106 this weekend
Dos_Box Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 Wow - edugeek must be doing really well if that is pocket money to you Heh, no, I got a loan and it's coming out of my wages, not from EduGeeks coffers. We've got confs to pay for y'know.
rad Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Heh, no, I got a loan and it's coming out of my wages, not from EduGeeks coffers. We've got confs to pay for y'know. So its going to cost more like £7k then! I bought a focus, pick it up tomorrow. i think the sales lady was suprised when I said I dont need finance.
dgsmith Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 i think the sales lady was suprised when I said I dont need finance. Same with me when I bought my new Fiesta last April. I paid for it in cash (well, part exchanged my then 3yr old Corsa) and the guy seemed rather surprised that I wasn't going to pay the remainder in finance, considering i'm only in my early 20s.
danrhodes Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I drive a Citroen C2 GT 1.6 16V and Im 23! Needless to say the insurance is bad! http://cdn.motors.co.uk/d/used-photos/24542/400x/0/0/SD54CVO.jpg
RinSewand Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 the sales lady was suprised when I said I dont need finance. I've been looking at swapping mine out for something economical, I get two supprised moments - asking if they'll px an Audi A4, and then saying there's no finance on it or the car I'll be buying... Enjoy the new Lexus - just takes my mind back to Alan Partridge... Is the plural Lexii?
Arcath Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I bought a focus, pick it up tomorrow. i think the sales lady was suprised when I said I dont need finance. i just brought a 2000 focus 1.8 petrol, picked it up on monday and its great, drives really well.

My brand new Meriva was £280 fully comp - [ cheaper than my old car because of the lower insurance class - I was expecting at least £400 so was very pleased ]
