Where you get your glasses from?

Hi,

 

ive just broke my glasses:doh: so need to get me another pair, just wondered where everyone goes? normally use specsavers but there designer ones are now £150 and i could do without paying that much, still would like a designer pair but hopefully somewhere nearer the £100 mark would be nice

I use a small outlet in town and I believe they also have a place in Kidderminster. I'll try and remember the name.

Asda opticians, never had a problem with them. Friendly service, glasses are done as I am shopping. Good quality glasses too, they take a beating in my day to day life.

You might think about getting a second pair on-line if your prescription is fairly straightforward - just google it and you will find loads of suppliers

Asda - 2 for £90

 

The glasses themselves were OK but I had to go back with them 3 times before I got the fit quite right on both pairs. If I wore them all the time (usually use contact lenses) I think I'd probably have spent a bit more though.

 

It might just be the shape of the lenses or the way they're sitting (or possibly just in my mind!) but I would say they don't seem quite as 'uniform' and up to the same level of quality when looking through them as the last pair I bought from my local optician? They were about a quarter of the price so maybe you only get what you pay for at the end of the day.

I had an issue where the lenses didn't fit the frames correctly from Glasses Direct. After a second go, and them having the same issue they were happy to let me have my money back. I think the problem was mainly the thickness of my lenses, and the thin frame (although I did pay an extra £100+ for thinner lenses).

 

I wouldn't buy glasses from specsavers again after the rubbish they tried to send me home with last time. Four attempts they had at ensuring the strap was tight, and the lenses were cut to the right size. Also tried to fob me off with cheaper lenses than I had paid for.

 

I use lenses all the time now, far less hassle.

Got my current set from Tesco. It's going to be two years of ownership by July.

 

Think I'll take a look in Asda, though, as lots of you are recommending them.

Specsavers for me..

 

THey usually always have the 2 for 1 offer on so my last set only cost me £150ish!

Not into Designer frames - would end up looking like one the Proclaimer twins!

The odd mistake I can live with, but I think I gave them a fair crack - ordered two pairs, each was faulty in a different way (one pair had the lenses swapped, the other didn't have the tint I'd ordered).

 

Sent them back with a covering letter categorically stating (twice) that I wanted a refund and not an exchange, as I didn't want to wait another couple of weeks. Obviously as the goods were neither as ordered nor fit for purpose I was clearly entitled to a full refund.

 

So, of course (having taken my custom elsewhere) they sent two new pairs, and was a pain to get that resolved.

Me too. Much more convenient when you can just chuck in a pair of one-day disposable ones and forget about the fact you're even wearing them. Probably costing about £200 a year but you can quite easily spend that on a nice pair of glasses which you could lose/break in less time.

Yep, I even have a prescription snorkelling mask...have to admit the focus isn't quite as good as it was, but I manage. It's too expensive to reglaze regularly!

Fully Agreed, I need to get new prescription sunglasses this summer its been about 5 years since I got them done, I am still legal to drive but I can tell they are due changing as they are not as crisp as they were.

 

Costs me around about £300 every two years at the opticians

Specsavers for me, excellent customer service.

 

I personally think it's much better to use a high street for glasses, on-line can't take your measurements for the best fit etc.

The ironic thing is that most of the £200 designer frames now seem to be styled on NHS glasses from the 1980's The Tesco value ones would probably look more expensive to anyone not in the know!
