If you aren't aware, Google are about to launch their own HTC built phone, complete with Android 2.01. More details here:

Now, I've never been one for abusing the site as it's creator etc, but according to El Reg the first phones will be sold by invite only. As I know Google often visit I would like to take the opportunity to say 'Please, please, please let me have one? Shaun, our webmaster would like one too. We both think they are very shiny and Shauns iPhone is on it's last legs and now requires him to be no more than 10 feet away from a power outlet at any time, and please do't ask about my increasing frustration with Windows Mobile 6.0!!'

In short, please give us an invite as we will be very good owners and not abuse them (for the first few months).

Concur with Shauns woes.

 

My iPhone used to last around 2-3 days, playing games, messing with apps and the likes, and now, its an utter pile of poo. It lasts no longer than 10 hours, I cannot mess around with apps without draining the battery I need to conserve to actually use it as a phone.

 

Had my 3G for 24 months now, think its defiantly end of life and a 3GS is on the cards or alternative as battery life provides the best usability.

I've got mixed views on the Nexus. It is a sleek and attractive phone, with what appears to be some nice updates to Android, but why on Earth does it only have 512MB of space for apps? Android doesn't install apps to the SD card in my experience, so it is a little small on that part.

 

Not to mention that they make out that you can swap SD cards - but the fact that app configuration files are usually stored on these means you lose use of your configured apps if you don't copy the config files to every SD card you wish to use.

 

But on the up side... 5MP camera, with LED flash. That's an iphone beater. I was kinda sick of smartphones only ever having crappy low spec cameras that give images that could have been taken by one of the first digital cameras...

Not sure on it. I'll quite gladly give up 3D image galleries and animated wallpaper to save battery life or improve performance on actual functionality. And I prefer physical keyboards too.

 

I still have my eyes on the Motorola Milestone.

Google were asked about why only 512mb of storage, the initial reply was that this was to protect the apps from piracy #lame - However they also said they are working on encrypting the app data so that the apps can be stored on SD.

 

Think the voice recognition looked the most impressive feature, however I've had this on previous phones and never ever used it. Not like I used it once and it was rubbish - I never used it.

Doesnt the iphone? I know the apps are encrypted but not sure if they are silly enough to install them unencryted as jailbreak iphones can easily extract them and pass them on. I just thought the illegal apps were just drm broken ones.

Objective-C is considerably faster than Java. My point is Java is a pretty slow language in my experience - the apps I have on my android phone already have some speed issues.

I like the nexus but I also like the droid too. The 3g iphone is annoying me now with the batt life etc. I hate the fact that I can leave say bluetooth on to autolink to the car or even really use 3g without it dying now. I wish apple would wake the hell up and allow you to replace you OWN batteries! I hate the way how everything apple nowadays wont let you replace the batteries and their only arguement is "you wont have to blah blah" but yet I bet my iphone would have a bit better life if I did replace its battery.

Roll on the EU directive to force all devices to have replacable batteries!

 

The only thing holding me back really is CES and the possible annoucement of the 4g iphone at the end of the month.

What do you mean? It is easy to replace the battery in the 3G

I replaced my iPhone 3G about 2months ago with a HTC Hero. Very good move on my part, can't see myself moving back to iPhone anytime soon now i have played with android OS, so i had to get my hands on the nexus one.
