sorry for this post, couldnt think how to resolve....

being a geek in charge of a load of year 9s, got into conversation about the pets names of the rich and famous.....

some bright spark started an argument about the fact that geeks / techs etc..all have pets names that have some demonic connection.....now i dont have any pets, well one called butterscotch but i wasnt gonna offer that for slaughter (the comment not the rabbit)....

if you have pets what are their names.....i will anonymise all answer and present the data to them.....

i suppose i have to be prepared for the plethora of fangs, devils, and other morbid pets names...

as many as you can please.....i suupose you could anser from the point of view that if you had a pet what would it be called...

once again, for posting here, but if there is another collection of helpful guys like you all then tell me where they are...

regards

Butterscotch

My dog is called Jessicles or Jess for short!!!! If it helps my cousin's husband (a geek also) has two cats and my cousin wanted to call them Death and pestilence but he was having none of that and called them Mabel and Marvin!!
Posted

All passed away now, but we've had Honey* (Hampster), Pamplemousse, Kisses* and Hearts* (All Guinea Pigs)...

That blows the demonic theory out of water heh? :D

* Explanation: I have two daughters - maybe if I had boys they'd have been called Hacker, Slasher, Maniac and Dexter?!

Posted

2 cats, Hex and Fudge, 2 guinea pigs named Ginger and Afro.

With the possible exception of Hex (who's a big black hulking farm cat descended lump of softy), there's nowt demonic about it..heh.

Posted

Dead cats - sammy and dellie (samson and deliah), kiwi - all black (met an untimely death in the washing machine), polo, short for napoleon he had a black patch over one eye.

Current cats -Rico named after a player in our local basketball team, same colour and same strangely high pitched voice for such a big person, and Jess named by my sons class.

Not geeky at all!

Nope: I have boys (and a girl) and we have had Rex (a rex guinea pig, boys are SO literal!), Chip, Midnight Squeak, Rose, George, Shadow, Silver, Indiana, humbug, Meatloaf, Smoky, Scruffy, and Che (from the teenager into revolution) - all guinea pigs, rabbits and rats.

A dog called Smartie, and the current dog is Smudge.

The cat was Stirling Mogg

Ready for this list?

I have a vast array of pets - while they aren't all mine - I will include them here :)

Without knowing whether you meant current pets or past pets, I'm including all information I have.

Rats:

Psychorat, Mallow, Pest, Sweeney, Brownie, Sox, Sparkle, Stripe, Spot, Jay, Kara, Spooky, Alice, Sarah and lastly... Arwen.

Mice:

Maisie, Spooky-Mouse, Mabel, Harriet, Ying, Yang and Coffee.

Pets that aren't mine (are my parents):

Rabbits:

Daisy, Bella, Oscar, Ozzie, Murphy, Harry, Sally, Blair

Doves:

Lovey.

Semi-tame Pheasant - Phil.

Lastly... Squirrel - Nutkin.

As you can see - quite a list, some have stories behind them, some not.

'Psychorat' is because she was crazy, she didn't stay still and was generally hyperactive - lovely rat though.

'Sweeney' - she used to rip hair out by the roots.

'Spooky' - was purchased during one of the earlier series of Spooks.

I hope this list is enough - if you need more information I'll be happy to provide it when I can :)

Nevermind the pets! Some good camera work going on there!

currently living with me: Juno the Springer Spaniel (also known as 'oi you lil' ***' or Worm) and the gerby-boys (gerbils that belong to my sister and are nameless)

living at my parents house: Jasmine (mum to my springer) and Wigga (real name Jupiter, brother of mine from same litter), the cats: Teazle, Whiskey Mac (ginger cat), Holly, Bramble and Daisy. And the chook called Tikka (or she might be Masala - she's the last of the curries left - we had 8 chickens at one point all named somethign to do with chicken..) Also got a horse called Paris and I used to have a horse called Milo.

Past cats have included: Cleo, Willow, Hazel, Pebbles, Black Cat and we used to have a mongrel dog called Sparky.

Not sure how we ended up with so many animals apart from my mum used to work for a vet (where most of the cats came from)

I've lived with and had lots of pets, but they were all named by others. My first pet as an adult is Alfie, a Fox Terrier. Here he is in the park last week.

past cats Tiddles, Smudge, Hamish and Aftershock.

Now you see, I told the children that Smudge was a cat's name and not a dog's name. In fact I have met hamsters and rabbits called Smudge as well

Re:alcoholic names - my mum took in a dog called Sherry (it's original owner was a drinker) but she couldnt bear to call 'Sherry' so she renamed her Ceri (short for Ceridwen, pronounced Kerry)

This is a picture of Smudge. He is a mixture of Staffie, (about 1/8th, the vet reckons) and some sort of terrier or three - we think...

makes interesting reading, especially when you combine the data for what people have chosen to call themselves and what avatar picture they have chosen, and what their pets names are...however it appears that partners/parents/spouses and children have an impact on the household pet and not simply the geek answering the question.....i was of the opinion that us geeky types should have strange names, such as Gates, Jobs, Hawkings....plus the usual smatterings of deathound, fang etc...i am having to readjust my opinion, however i guess there may be others out there with stranger names/avatars..going to contact the great grumbledook and twozeroalpha, etc.....

to all who have answered thank you it will allow me to:

1.answer the year 9 with a definitive answer .....

2. prove to the year 9 that i am indeed a geek (by using a forum to ask the question)

number crunching soon....cheers all

butterscotch (3 legged rabbit - due to an unfortunate accident...perhaps i should have called him eric- eric the half a rabbit)
