projector1 Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 would highly recommend these folks. Very proffesional service to go with highly competive prices. I really appreciate the 3 year next business day service that is apart of the 3 year warranty we got with our workstations purchased june 04! Our server's tape drive failed and the warranty meant that 17 months down the line it was replaced for us by stone. If we had bought the server else where we would have had to cough up £600 for a new drive!
markesmith Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Couldn't agree more. I've been using Stone computers and recommending there kit, where appropriate, since 2002. First class after sales, astonishing response to warrenty issues and very school (primary in my case) friendly. I've visited their offices in, well...Stone and it's a very slick operation. Fancy logistics of the sort you associate with the motor industry. Full marks all round!
alan-d Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Yep ditto to the above Been using them for 2 years now for PCs and always received 1st class service.
wesleyw Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 I'll have to agree too I've been using them since they changed name from Omega (2001?) Never had an issue with them at all! Wes
GrumbleDook Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Yep ... used them on and off for the last 5 years ... mainly off at the moment, but that is purely because we are getting better deals on some snazzy ultra small form factor kit from another supplier, nothing to do with build quality or level of support ... they are fantastic on that side.
Geoff Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Yes my only complaint about stone is that they price themselves out of consideration.
GrumbleDook Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 They are only a few quid different per machine on the regular units ... and the exceptional support makes up for that ... but we are just not using regular units at the moment. When we change the monitors for our thin client rooms next year they are likely to get our business as they can do some fantastic deals on TFTs ... and mice and keyboards too.
Geoff Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Trouble I have around here is that the people who pay the bills only look at the price on the quotes and don't take ROI or TOC into consideration.
GrumbleDook Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Of course they don't .... they are TLAs and are to be avoided at any cost ... just like MMR, KGB, BNP and JCB (avoid JCBs that have been used to clear away cows slaughtered under the CJD scare)
Norphy Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 We used to use Stone almost exclusively for computers until they messed us around with an interactive whiteboard/projector setup about three years ago. It is a long story which I can recount if you want me to but suffice to say, they've not got any business from us since.
Geoff Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Of course they don't .... they are TLAs and are to be avoided at any cost ... just like MMR, KGB, BNP and JCB (avoid JCBs that have been used to clear away cows slaughtered under the CJD scare) But then how are we supposed to leverage our synergies going forward to create a win-win situation? You are generating negative ROI in this incumbent conversation, and have become a cromulent addition to the team. You should be capsized^W rightsized immediately.
jumpinjamez Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Used them to get 96 computer for every classroom to do electronic registration. Nice machines and after sales support spot on. Were good on price when given a target.
Joedetic Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 they are TLAs and are to be avoided at any cost ... just like MMR Oh bugger...I had one of those on tuesday But seriously, stone are really quite good. I seem to remember something bad about a whiteboard installation they did but i'm not 100% sure on that...it's too long ago now
spirit27 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Hi Tony Stone had a new mini small form factor at Bett - might be worth a look
tom_newton Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Worth noting that Stone are a SmoothWall partner - we heard good things, and they are a BECTA framework supplier, so it is a good match!
Joedetic Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Quick note...we're still using stone for PCs and laptops and still happy. Also I filled in a "how green are you" survey at BETT on the Stone stand and Richard let me have a green piggy bank. Password reset cash has never looked so cool
Silvor Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Stone are excellent -we use them too. Excellent products and support. My NM who spent time at Bett with our account rep and regional team manager - said they were talking about Stone's new monitors which are 'green' for the environment (they sound good)...and also itx's - really small form factor machines. Looking good.
ricki Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 HI Stone have good after sales and are in general good machines first time. They have my approval and I would recommend them. Richard
Marksb Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I have a Rock xtreme 64 and it has a problem. It was repaired and returned with the same problem. it was sent back and signed off as repaired, then Stone noticed the problem, so they fixed it, signed it off again and sent it back. It still had the same problem so it went back. They said they had no idea what was the cause and would change the base. I asked what that meant and they said all I would have left of my old laptop would be the hard drive and the lid. I asked about the motherbpaord and they said that would be new. It came back, still with the same problem. However, whilst the jobsheet was signed to say the work had been done, what I got back was like something out of a skip. The keyboard was second-hand, showing wear marks, having cat hairs under the keys and having brown food squeegeed under and in between most of the keys and with paint scraped off the keyboard base leaving bright metal shining through. Around the speakers, paint has been scretched off. As for the new motherboard; it was made in 2005. All the ports are integral to this motherboard and many show signs of considerable wear. So, Stone do not know how to fix certain faults. Stone fix warranty claims with second-hand parts. Stone lie about the work done. And, guess what, they want me to send the computer back to them! I have asked for a replacement and they have refused. If anybody is in doubt about Stone, my advice, based on experience, is stay well away. I hope this posting saves somebody else the stuffing I have experienced.
irsprint Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Dont know how I could live without this supplier! great spec, great build, two PC's had problems, no questions asked, replaced next day
garethEds Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 We've been having problems with a faulty batch of Microsoft Multimedia V1.0 keyboards. After a year of sending them back and forth Stone have just replaced all 69 of them. They are brilliant. Top marks for our sales guy. GJE
Sylv3r Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 We had 300+ machines delivered in the holidays any issues we have had theres an engineer out next day to resolve (Obvioussly we have to ring them, he's not psychic!).
Haptic Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 good to see another supplier getting some good feedback on the forums + Rep for stone
