So what animals do you have at your school ?

We currently have some rats, stick insects, giant snails, a gecko, fish & we are hopefully going to get some Bees next year - [ we have the hive..... ]

We have a squirrel called Gerald who is so fat from eating the food the kids drop he can no longer climb trees, a colony of cockroaches behind the temporary classrooms who live on fag ends and who all scuttle around coughing, and a rat so big in the bushes by reception that the pest control guy can't catch him and the poison has no effect on him either.

We've got goldfish - and the tortoises belonging to me and one of the pre-school teachers visit regularly.

 

The only furry residents are foxes living under the PE shed and mice that we keep having to exterminate in the Victorian main building.

One of my smaller schools has an animal I can't possibly describe. Sort of like a stick insect, but if it was one, I could only guess it was a tree insect - it was huge.

Each week I visit, I usually pop my head in the classrooms to make sure everything's good with their staff etc; I swear to God there are less children each time.

We had stick insects, not sure what happened to them.

 

Oh we have some rats, apparently! They are in the freezer (in science) Oh and the regular crows to eat the kids lunches. :getmecoat:

Couple of fish in Science but other than that nothing - we intend to keep. Plenty of mice and rats (4 legged variety) around school as well as the occasional sheep from the neighboring farmers fields.

Sorry if I miss any of you out:

 

1 bearded dragon

1 corn snake

1 python

4 frogs

6 geese (i'm scared of them and they know it)

6+ pigs

1 bull

4+ cows

loads of sheep

loads of rabbits

loads of fish

Chickens (and eggs)

A few dogs hang around all day too.

 

There might be some turkeys too. People only care about them at christmas.

 

Some of the animals go to shows, some just lay around and some get turned into meat. mmmmmmmmm meat.

The secondary school i worked at had a Bearded Dragon (he was great!), Several Corn Snakes (one of which i adopted), Stick insects, newts, toads, hamsters and mice. They're the only things i miss about that school!!!

 

All we've got at my current school is the caretaker!

Few tutor groups went through a phase of having creatures last year but they seemed to all die off in the end. There's some fish in the library and one of the Biology teacher has his hamster (fluffy) from time to time.

 

There's a cupboard full of jars of part dissected creatures in one of the science prep rooms. xD

 

Old buildings were infested with squirrels we suspect, main fibre from server room got chewed through at one point... that cause a bit of a kerfuffle.

at my old place we had squirrels above of it office fox's in the playground and whatever fish that could cope in the river behind the it rooms.

Back when i was highschool:

The arg dept had: Fish, sheep, cows, bulls, chickens, chooks, bees and a few other things depending on the topics being taught, as well the teachers dogs would sometimes come in during the day.

 

And the science department had native fish till that head of department left (some idiot let off a boat flare in a enclosed space and left her with breathing problems)

Chickens in the allotment area, allowed to roam free at lunch times. Extremely well fed and enormous, went out the other lunch time and noticed that their feet are enormous, had a fleeting image of the Scrubs episode with the ostriches:)

 

We also have doves, started with 4 now have 16, they live in the courtyard, in what we now refer to as 'dove city', they hang round all day glaring at passersby, it's not unlike walking through a precinct with a gang of youths eyeing you up.

We have a huge nature reserve in which the Bees will be kept next year, was looking at getting a goat. When I mentioned it people thought I was joking...... I wasn't !!

Would love to keep some pigs too - some people just don't have any vision.....

Hmmm what have we got:

 

Various fish in various rooms.

The normal mass of noisy squirrels and pidgeons.

Crows ripping a beautiful and huge green lawn to pieces.

A tank of giant snails in Science.

At one point we had a load of trout the kids bred and apparently released into the Wandle. Hundreds of the things!

Mice (what school doesn't after break times).

Various neighbouring cats that come to catch said mice and be fussed by the kids and staff alike. Including a big monster of a cat who looks old and grumpy!

One of our science teachers has a large snail. Called Shelly.

one of my schools has a praying mantis and another has some hamsters thats about it
