I agree that this has come as a bombshell and Adelix haven't let on about this at all. Does seem that their answer to developing anything is lack of money. Ben
ChrisH Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 wtf!!!!! I have used Censornet for over two years now and have always recommended it to people and told them to watch out for V4 . I always liked the fact the very useful base was free and you could pay for the image filter and black list updates if you wanted them. I will be using a home built solution I think I have already had a squid/DG box of my own running and the reason I stuck with censornet was the web interface really. The other alternative is an IPCop/Smoothie with advanced proxy and dansguardian.

Sylv3r Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 In censornets defence they have for a while been mentioning that they would be cost implications for version 4, but I think the e-mail they dispatched tonight is the first menioning of actual costings. We have used Censornet here for about 2 years amd been very impressed with it. Now its a tough decision to remain with version 3 or pay for the use of version 4.

Also the ability to switch users between filter groups etc. I can see a way using Squid acls but that would mean DG and squid would be the wrong way round and can you still not pass on user info? You really need to pop Dansguardian on there though as well webman as it doesnt rely on a list it filters on the content.
