ZeroHour Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Hi I just wondered if anyone had any updated dates for release of internet explorer 8 on WSUS yet? I have been looking for ages and a while ago people said end of july but nothing has appeared yet. Cheers
FN-GM Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 25th Auguest it is due. This time next week. Zak 1
timzim Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Not quite the same subject but might be of interest: I installed IE8 on my WSUS server and it broke WSUS Couldn't fix it so I moved it to another (IE7) server. Maybe avoid IE8, certainly on your servers... 1

Michael Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I've had IE8 installed on Server 2003 for quite some time now. Some with WSUS 3.0 and some without, depending on their roles. I don't think IE8 itself is on WSUS yet (I haven't checked in a long while), but it would be logical to presume that when IE8 becomes available, its security updates and compatibility updates will become distributable via WSUS.

They already are available. They have sent that lot on but not IE8 itself. If you install it on a machine manually you can send out IE8 updates. 1
Michael Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I will have to check this as I wasn't aware IE8 updates were available yet.
pete Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 IE8 is on our servers. The only niggle was ePolicy Orchestrator needing compatibility mode for some (but not all*) parts of the web interface. *as in, one policy will load fine in the editor, but another one (for the same module/av component) won't.
john Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 IE8 was there I thought :S Its a seperate program like IE7 was if you look in the program list you will see IE8 dynamic installer and I thought it came out under than header (I'm avoiding IE8 thus I'm not worried if it isn't but I thought it was )
cookie_monster Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 The IE8 dynamic installer category is there but the actual installer isn't available to deploy from WSUS yet, security updates are though as i've patched a few test boxes from WSUS.
Michael Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 IE7 actually came under 'Update Rollups' and I suspect IE8 will too. Not sure what the Dynamic Installer category is for, let alone some of the other MS products I've never heard of!
mattx Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I only installed IE8 on our servers as I could not be bothered to install the relevant ADM files myself !! [ Lazy when it comes to that sort of thing ]

Yes you're right and there isn't much information out there about the dynamic installer but I think it's actually to do with beta testing and isn't used the rest of the time. DrPerceptron Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Windows Internet Explorer (7 and 8) Dynamic Installer Dynamic Installer categories are for the initial setup of the software/OS.
Reaper Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Has anyone else had problems rolling this out? WSUS is reporting that it has installed to our XP machines but it hasn't come up.
noel_gordon Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 I'd installed IE8 manually on a few of machines and it seemed to work ok. So I installed it using WSUS to my network and guess what, it doesn't work. click on the icon, nothing. I can get it to work by going in to task manager deleting any iexplore.exe processes and then starting a new task by browsing to the new iexplore.exe (for me its in c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe) exactly where the old one was. Any ideas? I'm using xp with sp3 and sophos enterprise antivirus but none of these affected the manually installed version.
