Am doing some research (I work for a school stickers company) into the MIS sector and needing to know the various market shares of the different MIS systems. Even ballpark figures would be okay. I know there are the three big ones (SIMS, Integris and CMIS) but does anyone know of any report into this sector or could point me in the right direction for anything related to market shares or comparisons of the applications themselves? It'd give you some ball park data to extrapolate from. If you run a poll you may want to add Phoenix Gold, Phoenix E1, Bromcom and Wauton Samuals to the list. I know Norfolk is split almost 50/50 SIMS and CMIS for secondary schools and pretty much 100% Phoenix E1 for primaries.

Regarding the link to that press release I guess I highly doubt the 90% figure especially if it comes from SIMS itself! I cant believe two other MIS applications can exist on only a 10% market share. (Sorry just realised the articles mentions the DfeS as the source of the 90% not Capita itself). Im just surprised no one has published reports/analysis on this before. It would seem a fairly important question I would imagine especially with the move to more MIS presence in schools. Re the poll good idea, might do that. matt40k Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I assume the DCSF got the stats from the school census, so it'll miss off all the schools that don't do school census. It'll also miss off people who have more then one MIS, ie, I use SIMS for pupil data, Bromcom for attendance, Phoenix E1 for staff data.

PhilNeal Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 We have around 80% of schools in England, Wales and NI. The next is RM which has a significant share of primary schools. Serco is next followed by Pearson. If you ask DCSF they wll let you have the census return numbers. 3
john Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I would expect the RM Share to drop with the end of Integris Classic this year as quite a lot are, I believe, looking to Serco, Pearson and Sims for the replacement over the new RM Integris G2. But as for that breakdown its quite large, I expected Sims to be less tbh.

Out of interest is sims.net the web based version of SIMS? Or how does it related to the regular SIMS application? Or is the actual SIMS application itself?

That must be their learning gateway which they advertise on their site. I presumed that main application wasnt web based.

According to the DCSF (England) they had 2014 returns from RM in Jan 09 - 1938 were nursery/primary/special. Serco had 1387 of which 851 were nursery/primary/special. 1

Thats really quite interesting that over 60% of the Serco figure was that group tbh, I would have thought it more the other way around myself, hey you learn something new every day
