HP LaserJet P2055DN's going offline and not responding

I found that by going into the printer properties, ports, configure and taking the check mark out of the SNMP Status Enabled box .... the printer instantly goes back online and I am able to print.

 

I have no idea why that works or whats going on but .... it works for me.

Hmm thats slightly different from us, when the printer goes offline we cant even access the web interface on the printer until a restart. If we disable snmp our print server always things its online as such as it can use snmp to query the status properly.

Thanks for the info though, we suspect its possibly a dodgy pc nic sending a bad packet here.

Ours did this when we first got them. They were the straw that broke the camels back and caused me to swear never to buy HP again. After jumping through enough hoops with HP we had the printer boards replaced on the affected units and the problem hasn't recurred since.

its a real shame compaq got bought by them!

Not sure if its just a small business server issue but If you read the gumph for service pack 2 for server 2003 ( not sure about 2008 sbs if it exists ) but disabling snmp on the printer port resolves it showing as offline

Seems to be either that the printer does not support SNMP or it is causing issues or over loading the network connection or doing something to make it go offline or show offline ( shrugs )

 

Some clarification would be good reference

 

1. does it effect only Small Business Versions of server operating systems or is it across the board on server operating systems

 

2. is it true as per screen grab and 2nd link that it is due to the printer not supporting snmp

Just to update on the ongoing saga HP is given us an updated beta firmware which seems to have resolved the problem. So far no printer we've updated to the latest version of the firmware has going offline again!

 

Will report back once the staff/kids return and everyone's been working normally for a week or two but so far so good.........

i have loaded the lastest live firmware but we are still having the issue in places unfortunately.

So far no real issues apart from one of the 12 or so printers we've upgraded losing it's IP address. Not 100% whether that was a result of the firmware or someone resetting it though.

 

HP have said they'd include the fix in the next firmware release so it should be fixed when that's released.

We have 10 of these printers and have the exact same issue. What a pain having to walk to the other end of the building just to switch them off and on again! When they lock up / go offline we can't get into the web interface or even ping them.

 

Is there any way we could also get that Beta firmware (as we speak we have just got someone calling with this exact problem -- time for a walk).

Looking at ordering about 5 of these printers, 2 of these were specific requests from users who though it would meet their needs well. Stumbled across this thread and needless to say became a little concerned. Are the printers worth purchasing if the Beta firmware fixes them, or is there a similar printer out there that anyone would recommend as an alternative to the P2055DN?

one of them was doing something really strange, the users described it as printing one behind. i think you printed something. nothing came out or all but 1 page came out. and then another user printed something and your last page came out. tbh I'm not entirerly sure, one of the technicians fixed, maybe the duplex was confusing with 1 sided printing? was probably a driver issue. i recently moved all the print queues to a new server with the latest HP universal driver for every single printer, and haven't had any problems since. maybe with lots of different drivers there are identically named but different version dlls that can cause problems? any way I'm rambling.

Spooky, the exact same thing happened on one of our HP LJ2055 printers for the first time today...power cycle cured it.
