CHR1S Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Once in a while my job throws up some real good days! As part of my many jobs I do, photography is one and today I had the pleasure of not one but two celebrities in school to photograph. First up was Ryan Bradley (Gymnast) and secondly was Ann Jones (Tennis) who very kindly brought along with her - Wimbledon Womens Winner, Wimbledon Doubles Winner, World Championship Winner, French Open and BBC Sports Personality of the Year 1969 Trophies! Ann was also an ex-pupil at the school. 1

GrumbleDook Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Dame Kelly is impressive as an athlete but I found her to be a tad rude and pushy, pushing to the front of the queue whenever she turned up in Winchester and would never talk to the awe-struck trainees. The final straw for me was when a resettlement / training meeting of mine got dropped so she could be squeezed in and she took up 3 times what she should have done. All the time in the world for Kris Akabusi, who I met as a kid ... a true gent.
Batman Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) He works as a motivational speaker nowadays, have you seen his website? Coooool! :D I remember seeing him laughing his head off on so many TV programs, back in the day. Edited May 20, 2009 by Batman

eduabncs Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I went to primary school with and was in the same school swim school squad as Kieren Perkins the Australian long distance swimmer and olympic gold medalist. He was very good then and was already in the Queensland and Australian junior squads. I wasn't a bad swimmer then (to get into the school swim squad you had to meet miminum times etc) and still am not, but he was in a different league from the rest of us. Funnily enough he got in two swimming seriously as physio for a broken leg and finding he liked it as was good at it! My school walked away with the inter-school swimming championship trophy for 3 years running due to him!
K.C.Leblanc Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 We have the daughter of a major day time TV person.

nawbus Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 My great (there might be another great (or two or three) in there) grandfarther was Ernest Rutherford, but now a days noone knows who he is... As in the nuclear physicist? That's a good connection! We had the American singer Dan Reed in a couple of weeks ago. Worked with the kids in the morning and then sang some songs in the afternoon. Most entertaining & nice chap too!
clareq Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 When I ran a pub in the East End of London we numbered amongst our locals Stanley Baxter, the bloke from Peters and Lee and Charlie Kray and his "friends".
Hightower Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 We have the children of a rather famous dancer (famous as in Soccer AM battle).
enjay Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 When I was at school we had a visit from Helen Sharman, I think that's her name anyway, the first British woman in space! Don't recall any other Greats though. Where I'm working now had a British Olympic medal-winning athlete to give out the prizes at last year's awards ceremony, which is pretty cool (not sure who she was though, as I didn't attend). We also have a number of students who are in national sports teams, so maybe we have some future stars in the making, and could ask them back in a few years...
enjay Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 My wife's school have had all sorts of visitors - Kelly Holmes several times, pop "star" Ironik and others I can't recall right now. Oh and Tony Blair did the official opening!
CHR1S Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 We have the children of a rather famous dancer (famous as in Soccer AM battle). Ok, spill, I lover soccer AM... Can you get me tickets to be in the audience? ;) Im amazed at how many "celebrities" there are out there.
Hightower Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Ok, spill, I lover soccer AM... The 'Mackem Mover'. And I'm not on first name terms with the chap, I just know his kids come to our school.
titch Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Weve had the luvly Georgie Palmer, celebrity weather lady. She was really nice, and the kids loved it. Plus countless saints footballers, and under 21s england coach and a couple of players.
