nutso Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Yes, but the singer resembled Zac Efron (at least I think so) which would have instantly caused millions of European schoolgirls phone in to vote.
powdarrmonkey Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Welcome to Eurovision, where actual talent counts against the entrants.
nutso Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Actually this year was much better than previous years for political voting I think. They changed the voting so that 50% was decided by phone and 50% by judging panel. Still not perfect, but better.
Gatt Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 And what the hell was that Interval Act Thought Norway was rubbish, ours was a bit too West End Musical - not surprising considering Andre Lloyd Webber wrote it! Graham Norton sounded no different that Terry Wogan - though at least it wasn't monotone! bring back Lordi I say!
Butuz Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 The fact you lot actually wasted an hour of your time watching that banal rubbish program worries me Butuz
torledo Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 The fact you lot actually wasted an hour of your time watching that banal rubbish program worries me Butuz +1 it doesn't so much worry me as explains a lot.
localzuk Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 The fact you lot actually wasted an hour of your time watching that banal rubbish program worries me Butuz Agree completely. The entire eurovision contest is nonsense. I just watched the 'highlights' on the BBC news site, and can say that the entire lot looked rubbish. Talent lacking across the board, ridiculous costumes, and over the top sets and dancing. Eugh.
Ric_ Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I watched it and thought some of them were quite good As for Norway winning, it was innevitable after they fielded such a big artist - he has a following throughout Europe. I still don't understand why we insist on finding unknown, obscure, acts to field for Eurovision. Why not just send a pop act that are already doing OK in Europe? Genius idea by Germany to get Dieter Von Teese in on the act - deflected your attention from the rubbish song slightly
BatchFile Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I still don't understand why we insist on finding unknown, obscure, acts to field for Eurovision. Agreed! Send in the 'Quo or Brian May:D
steve Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 You'll never get an established UK act on there as the majority of the UK see it as a bit of a joke - look at some of the carp we've sent them recently (Daz Sampson, Scooch??) and Jordan almost went one year! It's just a bit of a laugh for most. Given the huge variation in tastes (and lack of) across Europe its hard to appeal to all. Oh and there still was a fair bit of political voting going on. At least it cured my insomnia, I had a nice nap for about 20 songs
Batman Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I think they probably thought they were doing that, by using Andrew Lloyd Webber... Anyway, judging by the success of "Lordi" I think they should do the Eurovision Rock Song Contest... That might be better...
torledo Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Agree completely. The entire eurovision contest is nonsense. I just watched the 'highlights' on the BBC news site, and can say that the entire lot looked rubbish. Talent lacking across the board, ridiculous costumes, and over the top sets and dancing. Eugh. yep. it's nonsense, i'd rather watch the closing of the wimbledon roof opening ceremony [i s*** you not it was broadcast live :shakes head:] it isn't as if we need any more reasons to conclude that bbc tv in the main is utter junk.
Ric_ Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Anyway, judging by the success of "Lordi" I think they should do the Eurovision Rock Song Contest... That might be better... Again, Lordi were a well established, popular, act before going to Eurovision.
NeoPlosive Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Well atleast this years song wasn't really like an Easyjet or BA advert song... We’re flying the flag all over the world Flying the flag for you We’re flying the flag all over the world - yes we’re flying - take you all around the world Flying the flag for you Would you like something to suck on for landing sir? We’re flying the flag all over the world - yes we’re flying - take you all around the world Flying the flag for you… We’d like to thank you for flying with us today Oh please kill me And we did magically jump up to 5/23 opposed to what place 25? last year... Maybe it had something to do with them changing the voting system this year? 50% televoter and 50% call ins in hope to stop the political motivation votes.
GrumbleDook Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Me too... My wife thought it was pointless though.
CHR1S Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Cant believe the Spanish Pink lookalike didnt score higher, she was one of the better ones (well he revealing dress was anyway) Graham Norton made me chuckle, almost made it bareable when the missus made me watch it
simpsonj Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 We should send in The Mighty Boosh or Bill Bailey to Eurovision, would be comedy genius...
jamesb Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Why would we want to win? The winner gets to host the next one, and those things aren't cheap.
Gatt Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 good point - its bad enough that several billion has been ploughed into the 2012 fiasco without mounting ESC on top - oh and I believe we're trying to get the 2018 World Cup... Have we even got enough money - especially as we are now subsidising MPs for nappies
tech_guy Posted May 18, 2009 Author Posted May 18, 2009 We should send in The Mighty Boosh or Bill Bailey to Eurovision, would be comedy genius... Yes, Bill Bailey would be absolutely ace - we should start a petition on the 10 Downing Street website...
elsiegee40 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I was less concerned by the Nowegian Efron-look-alike that I was by the Icelandic girl who came second Where did she get that dress? The Disney Store? It looked like a 5 year old's Cinderella outfit!
Batman Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 BILL BAILEY! Come on! He'd be well up for it, get him to do Insect Nation or The Leg Of Time! BILL BAILEY!!! Do you think the BBC Concert Orchestra would be up for it as well?
