SYNACK Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Yeap, we're IE8 now. Everything seems to work fine so far. Have not tested clicker though but thats in another of the schools that I deal with. Is it usually a bit iffy browser wise?

EduTech Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 All of the IT Staff use it here now with no issues, and we have deployed it to a few smaller rooms with no problems. As we wont be re-imaging the machines now until the big holiday we probably will just wait until then before going site wide. James. 1

cookie_monster Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 It's not on WSUS yet just Windows Update. I'm using it on my desktop to test and i've had no issues so far but I haven't tested for issues with SIMS yet.
Dos_Box Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Just uninstalled it and went back to IE7 as there are big issues with WebDAV and users using Moodle not getting the 'explorer' type view, but the FTP one when they should.
DrCheese Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 We're ignoring it, As Windows 7 is on the horizon we don't see the point in deploying a major update to XP that doesn't really offer us much. We'd only end up disabling most of the new features anyway, i.e inprivate mode and the accelerators. Not to mention we'd probably just run it in IE7 compatiblity mode anyway at this stage as the web and various applications that use IE haven't really matured to IE8 standards mode. It just seems a lot of work for so little gain at this stage. It offers little to no benefit to our users at this time.

I tried installing a set that I downloaded from somewhere, but it messed up the GPO structure, instead of all the policy settings being listed in a nice folder called IE8, it lists all the settings in the root of the GPO!

Just grab them from the c:\windows\inf folder on a machine that you have installed IE8 on (assuming your still on xp) 1

James. yeh i tried it mate but for some reason it wouldn't open up the link editor in IE7 and it works fine in IE8. It opened up the Image editor and all the other pop ups just not the links editor thingy. Weirdddd

We have had problems with Moodle - but we are only using 1.8.3 Switching into compatibilty more does the trick though. GJE
john Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I thought it was on WSUS under the new catagory of Internet Explorer 8 liked IE7 is? As for us, no move yet, have some hardware that doesn't like it such as the BCM Phone System didn't like IE8 on the laptop the other day (Then again it doesn't like Java newer than about 4 years ago!)

IE8 dynamic installer if you enable the category and sync the server nothing comes down. IE8 hasn't been released to general WSUS usage yet as it doesn't come down in any supported categories XP/2003/2008. Well as far as I can tell. Jeremy69 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Tried out on a few machines here. No problems at all including SIMS is fine with it. At this stage it doesn't confer enough advantages to rush to roll it out to all but compared to some previous upgrades it seems a smooth process.
Michael Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I've started to deploy it on new images and so far so good. Just make sure you configure the new available policies first and deployment should go smoothly. I've disabled the Favourites bar by GPO in IE8 so it looks pretty much like IE7. I think users changing from IE7 to IE8 shouldn't have any significant problems. IE6 to IE8 however would be a big change. I've also included IE8 in the latest Logistix Post XP SP3 Pack May 2009. Microsoft haven't released IE8 to WSUS as yet, however from memory, IE7 became available by enabling Update Rollups in WSUS. I suspect this'll be the same for IE8 too.
