What College did you attend and how was the wi-fi/connection there?

I first attended Moorpark Community College, then transferred to University of California, San Diego.

Connection at UCSD was horrible at times when you had your own laptop. Cramming for a test online proved to be impossible at UCSD during finals week!

Wifi? We had a handful of Windows 3.1 PCs and a massive Acorn Econet network. If you were really lucky, you got to use an A5000 with a HD instead of a 3010. On the other hand, you could play Mad Professor Mariarti on an Acorn, so can't complain too much...

I went to UEA, Norwich. Wireless hadn't been invented yet. We had to queue in the corridor outside if we wanted to make a phone call, go to the computer lab if we wanted to use a PC, get up at six in the morning, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down t' mill fourteen hours a day, etc and so on.

I did mine via the OU - on-line but with a 300 Baud(yes I know) acoustic modem and teletype machine. You try programing over that.

I went to Coventry University and there was no wireless.

Best PC were some NT 4 Workstations.

Rest of the stuff was old and rubbish but used a lot terminals on the mainframe.

Can I talk about punched cards as a way of programming a computer? You young folk just don't realise how lucky you are :-)

Yep, that's what I used at UCL, not good if you dropped the box

Still it gives us Steampunk credibility points

Wifi? Computers?

I remember learning about op amps and 747 chips-does that help?

Ah yes, me too - and programming in machine code and then Motorola 68000 programming...

Sheffield Poly (as was) - cards, punch tape and a 300 baud acoustic coupler/teletype out at the halls of residence where I lived.

We did write a version of Space Invaders that printed off a sheet of printout paper for each "screen" iteration though - took ages to play a game...

Lancaster Uni, Wifi was available only in the second year, and only in a few hotspots, as it was being rolled out. I also worked for them, so used either my desk in the office, or the repairs desk in the helpdesk area to plug in with a wire instead.

hahaha its ok if other contribute too, but yeah I do believe my generation is very lucky because of technology. Now the newer generations are even luckier! I graduated about a year ago and was able to land a job right away so yeah I am pretty young, but hey I still know my stuff.

But from what all you guys talk about its almost comparison to some pre-historic time details!
