Swine Flu?? Can IT staff Clean all keyboards at end of day???

That is tottaly rediculous, if the outbreak was that bad the school should be closed anyway.

Based on how long it takes to effectivly steralise a keyboard it would be far more efficiebt to simply replace them all at the end of the day. Give her a quote for a weeks worth of new keyboards and she might come to her sences.

The only way to do this properly in bulk at speed would be to collect all keyboards in and run them through a big UV steralizer or a radiation one :).

Maybe the school should buy 1,000 pairs of disposable gloves to issue to staff and students.

I think that is the way forward then there are no excuses.

Hows about giving her a quote for replacing the keyboards each day, as you can't be too sure you can get in all the nooks and crannies to clean them.

Localised Swine Flu Outbreak!

Ripley "I say we take off, and nuke the site from orbit. It's the onyl way to be sure!" :)

ROFL. Classic. Better than my hand gel idea.

Although I can appreciate people have concerns/worries, little thought has gone into this request. It's a well known fact however that computer keyboards have more germs than the average toilet. Toilets are or should be cleaned everyday in a school whereas keyboards are not generally speaking.

I do think it's a good idea in general to clean computers more (than most schools I visit), but everyday is a little OTT; and as you've pointed out, this is going to take hours and hours with lots of machines.

That's also true of the human mouth, even with regular cleaning.

Why not just issue every child and staff member with a personal slave that walks 2 steps behind cleaning everything that the person touches, handrails, doors, phones hey we could even wipe there arses for them............Doh! i forgot we do that anyway :D

Or a sterile bubble for all users with thought control for the computers, or we could close all schools and public places impose a curfew and a state of emergency get the army on every street corner and have a shoot to kill policy........

But what if the army get it?

I'm wearing a poncho and sombrero to work.

Walk around sneezing for a bit will mean I'm swiftly sent home for the day.

Remember BSE when we just piled up all cows that might be hazardous and burned them? I reckon we should do that with any person who might possibly have flue, any person dressed as a Mexican, any person that comes up with daft responses to flu, basically, any person that irritates me :-)

Is that OK ?? :-)

My school have issued some antibacterial wipes for each ICT suite with a poster asking students to clean the keyboards and mice between users - although I cant help finding that slightly ironic when only a few students will touch a particular mouse/kb during the day but ALL will use the same door handles to get in and out!!

Part of my Arsenal is a small paint brush. Great for getting those crumbs out from between the keys.

I use it on my own keyboard though. Wouldn't dream of of going around all the workstations and I think the OP should tell whoever it was that asked them to do it, to go and flush their head down the toilet.

Can I stop laughing now...

The problem is that all of the above points (well the serious ones anyway) are true.. But even if you were to come up with an iron clad explanation at to why it's a waste of time, and even demonstrate it with a suitable casualty you'd then get a b*llocking for back chatting to your line manager or the head... T'is a no win situation.

Good grief but some people really shouldn't be in charge of a school should they..

why should people be worried about this specifically ? because the bbc have run it as a news headline for days ?

Well it's taken our minds away from the G20 protests and how useless Gordon, Jacqui, Alistair and the rest are.

Paintbrush, arse. Compressor FTW! You should see the crap/pubes/snot/skin/dust/crumbs fly when we do our..yuck.

We spray the KBs/Mice with foaming cleaner until plastered, leave it for a minute, blat them at full whack to force the foam into the KB and out of the drains (thanks dell), taking all the muck with it, and then we spray with antibac "phone sanitizer" spray and airdry with the gun again. Takes about a minute to do, does an excellent job.
