Depends if you want 1000Mbps or just 10/100Mbps - I'd definitely second Stewarts Netgear recommendation, but also add D-Link to the cheap workhorse list.

If you're just after 10/100, the D-Link DES-1024R+ - 24 Port 10/100Mbps Rack Mount Switch goes for about £80 including VAT.

If you need 1000Mbs, have a look at the Netgear JGS524T - goes for about £230 inc VAT. Cheap and cheerful version of the GS524T apparently.

Allied Telesyn aren't bad either. Linksys switches do the job. At that sort of level I've found that they're all much of a muchness.

I have got a nice Netgear in the staff work room which works rather well. Its got more features than you need but it was still very cheap.

Netgear's a good choice, I've never been disapointed by the netgear stuff i've had.

Although have a look into the PowerConnect switches Dell do. Their 24 port 10/100 unmanaged switches start at £56! and that's before any educational discount!

Another vote here for Netgear. The NETGEAR JFS524 can be had for under £60.00

All our switches here are Netgear and I've had no problems with them at all.

I use two JGS524Ts' and have no complaints whatsoever.

I'm likely to have a whole raft of networking kit to give away if someone want s it this summer.

Intel 10/100 Switches with fibre. (Managed)

Planet switches - 24 Ports with fibre modules(Unmanaged)

We are doing a full upgrade of our network to HP Procurve kit during the holidays.

I'll let you the forums know when i becomes available.

Regards
