I think you might have hit the nail on the head there. I've just logged on as the pupil and opened word and started speech to text. I noticed a tool bar down on the task bar which is the dictation toolbar and when i spoke the dots came up on the screen as the computer was processing my voice. Yep, definitely one for the book! Speech to text!

Hmm, that might be an idea, the machine was an iMac so it has an internal microphone... Will go and check!

Right I've got a real odd problem here. I got called through to a room where one of the kids was using Word 2003. She had just started the document and words were appearing on the document. It kinda doesn't make sense but it is english and not just a bunch of random words. The machines are all proxy filtered out on to the internet and there's an amazingly strict firewall ruleset for the pupil machines. The machine has Symantec Endpoint Security on it with all the up to date definitions. There's nothing spooky in the task or process list either. There were no macro's on the document and it was created whilst in the centre not at home. Attached is the document, it's been scanned today with Endpoint Security. SORTED! Changed the driver to the PCL6 version instead of PCL5 and it works fine. However I'm sure when I installed the latest Universal Driver it defaulted to PCL6 and it caused problems so I put it to PCL5 for a reason... can't remember why though Will see how it goes for the rest of the day!

Thanks for the replies guys... We're already running the latest version of the HP Universal driver, so I can't update that. Most of the JetDirect cards in the printers failed years ago (have had the 2200's for 6 years now) and have been replaced with the 620n's. The possibility of the printer running out of memory doesn't explain why I can print the document from a 64bit machine and it works but not from a 32bit machine. However, I've got some memory that will fit the printer so I'll stick it in one of them and see. Attached is a print out to show you exactly what's happening, all I did was make a new powerpoint (this time in Powerpoint 2007) and add a chart, where the chart is I get the black bar.

I've got a real odd problem here, when our users are printing out from a room that runs Windows XP Pro SP2 32bit, Office 2003 SP3 to a HP 2200 laser printer they get big black bars across the page wherever there are any images or word art (Word, Powerpoint and Excel). I've gone to a machine that runs XP Pro x64 SP2 and Office 2003 SP3 and printed to the same printer (same printer share just a 64bit driver) and there are no bars. If they print to the HP 5500 colour laser they got no bars either. Any ideas anyone?

Hmm, on further investigation I got the following error "You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to this printer", googling came up with a MS support article about changing a setting in the local policy. Made the following change in the Domain Group Policy. Local Policies > Security Options Devices: Prevent users from installing printer drivers - Disabled Forced a policy update on the machine, did a reboot, logged on and the printer script runs and sets up the right printers. Now the only thing I can think that has changed since yesterday is some Windows Updated that were done to the Print server and clients, off the top of my head I can't remember which updates they were though. Anyone?

I've been using the logon script from here that sets up network printers for months, then today I suddenly start seeing error messages. Line:38 Char: 3 Error: The Printer name is invalid I've checked and double checked that line and there nothing wrong with it, I can connect to the printer specified from the machines that are showing the error. In fact character 3 on line 38 isn't even a name of a printer, it's part of a command! Attached is the script and screenshot of the error if anyone has any ideas? printers.txt

Maybe I'm just being stupid but does this need to applied to the domain group policy then? If I apply this to my students group policy how would the computer know to run the script before it even knows that a student is logging on? @Geoff Will the script crap out if it tries to delete a printer that doesn't exist? Some of our clients have the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer printer, some dont, will it be OK to use the one script that deletes the XPS driver and the Image Writer drive on all the machines?

Do startup scripts get executed before the login scripts? It's just I've got a login script that sets up the printers on the machine so i need the xps driver deleting first so that the 1st printer that gets set up in the printers script becomes the default.

I get an access denied error for this script on line 6, any reason why it would be doing that? "objPrinter.Delete_" Just using it as a logon script in a group policy, is it that the script doesnt have the rights to delete the local XPS Document driver or something?

I bought a couple of Tevion branded USB Bluetooth adapters from Aldi a few weeks ago, £7.99 and they work a treat, plug & play and they work when our pupil profiles are logged on. Not sure if they still sell them though, think they we're one of those weekly specials.

You could set the root of the website to be "SERVERIP\FOLDER1\FOLDER2\" although this would be a file path more like "C:\FOLDER1\FOLDER2\" then set the default index page to be filename.txt instead of index.html

Nope nothing! It's really odd! The scheduled sync works fine so it is updating itself each night it's just odd that it says 11/12/2007 and manual syncs don't work!

Just updated from WSUS 2 to WSUS 3, apart from Windows Internal Database breaking BackupExec 10 (easy fix, install BackupExec 10d and SP3) it all went OK ish... My synchronisation is scheduled for 3AM which it ran fine last night, but in the console it says "Last Synchronization: 11/12/2007 15:10" which hasn't happened yet. When I try and run a manual sync it fails with no specific error message, but the scheduled ones work on an evening just fine. Anyone seeing anything like this? Oh and the time/date is correct on the server!

I decided to go with 2. I've added the logoff command to the "run these programs at logon" of the local policy and it works fine. Is there any way to do this to all the machines I want to do this to quickly instead of having to go round each machine editing the policy? When I change the local policy, what does it write to? Can I export it from one machine and drop it onto all the others?

I'm sure it's been talked about in here before but I can't seem to find the thread... We run a proxy which all pupils are forced through via the domain group policy, some of the pupils have figured out the old remove network cable at logon trick so the group policy fails but they still get logged on to a desktop. What are the options to get round this? The gateway specified in the IP settings on each machine points to our actual network gateway, I can't change this to a fake gateway as some of the programs on the admin side that we use don't let a proxy be specified so when I change the gateway they suddenly stop working.

What exactly should I have to change? I've changed the path to the path I want "E:\Users\Pupils\" I've kept OutputFormat as jpg and Ext as bmp as i'm doing bmp's first then i'll go on to Photoshop files. I've also changed StrCMDLine to where my convert.exe is located.
