ProDesktop CC3 Install

Can anyone help with installing ProDesktop on CC3.

 

It's the one and only package that we are having problems with...

 

It would help if we had the original disk really, but it seems to have gone walkies in our Technology department...

What problems are you having exactly? We have a CC3 package of ProDesktop that works fine but I don't know off the top of my head what version - i'll check shortly.

It's version 8

 

The problem is where the software doesn't open basically...

The fix command you have to run doesn't seem to be applyed with the package.

 

The software runs fine on student accounts and all accounts if you install it manually on the PC's, but as you can imagine, this is a pain

if you contact them - they can supply a CC3 version on CD. You need to apply both the Installshield and Prodesktop Packages. We arent a CC3 school anymore - but they still work fine here!

Contacted PTC, and basically the conversation went along the lines of "Pro Desktop was retired about 4 years ago, would you like us to get sales to give you a call with regards to Pro Engineer" ...

Which is even more of a pain to install, as each machine needs to import its own licence file based on its MAC address

And to completely steal this thread, does anyone know a way around this ?

As there's no way I'm going to install Pro Engineer on 200 machines individually.

I found just packaging up a .bat with the following:

 

c:

cd C:\program files\ptc\prodesktop 8.0\program

prod /regserver

 

sorted out our problems after initial install, just add the pro desktop 8 package in as a dependancy in the .ini

Trying to install this on a CC4, but running into problems. Anyone still got a working package that they use on CC3 and willing to advise?

Actually ProEngineer doesn't need the MAC address of each machine if you install the licence server.

Doing it this way means that you could, theoretically, install ProEngineer on ALL computers - the licence server limits you to the number of licences.

Also ProEngineer is really really easy to install - once they tell you.

 

1. Install the licence server on one of your servers

2. Install ProEngineer (this applies to Pro Engineer 3 and 4) on a computer, pointing it to the licence server for the licence

3. Simply copy the ProEngineer folder to the other computers (or, as I've done, use AdvancedInstaller to build an MSI out of it)

4. Have a coffee

and if you don't won't want to install pro engineer, pro -desktop does just run of the network drive if you make it.
