Promethean boards and dry-wipe markers

How difficult would it be to apply some kind of film to the front of a Promethean board to enable the user to write on it with a dry-wipe marker?

 

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

WHY? I'm sure this would invalidate your warranty and defeat the point of an interactive whiteboard. What can they not do that needs dry wipe markers.

Sometimes the teacher doesn't need to use the PC, and just wants to jot something down quickly. Because the projector might not already be on, or out of service for some reason. Because older members of staff sometimes use the room and don't like the interactive boards. Because because because.....

You supposedly can write on them with "good quality" board markers, and if you had some of the proper cleaning stuff on hand in case of problems....it could work. We don't encourage it at our place though - like ozzy says, better in the long run to encourage them to use the software.

Our staff a separate white board for this exact purpose.

I thought of these, but I have a feeling the Promethean board certainly won't like the static charge so just use them on another bit of wall space in the classroom.

The above site is american, but the staff here have purchased from YPO (Yorkshire Purchasing) and I would imagine other stationary shops will sell similar.

You know what? I remember we ordered from Yorkshire a while back and some of these were given to us to sample. I might inquire as to what happened to them...

Just have a normal whiteboard to the side of it.

 

Whenever we have a new IAWB the old "normal" whiteboard just gets put back up along side it.

 

Then the teacher can user whichever they prefer

Promethean used to manufacture an acetate overlay for the boards which was exactly what you are looking for.

 

Funnily enough they realised that this disuaded a lot of teachers from ever using the board interactively and so stopped selling them.

 

I have found a site that has a similar product but I've never used them before so couldn't tell you if they are any good or not.

Cheers for that, Darren. That's pretty much perfect. I'll mention it to the People With The Money and see what they think. Overall, it's not that costly and cuts down on the waste of using the static-sheets.
