I know the DFE wont be offering any extensions as they have this budget until March so there is a hard deadline to get the work done by February if you were in the initial group who were invited to join.

Thanks, I believe that there are no DFE approved products/brands, just those that meet the output spec. I think all the brands cover these points as they are all wifi6, I was just interested if anyone has direct experience of Ruckus?

I'm afraid not. Many resellers will tell you that this is the case however legally you are required to buy a collaborative licence for every device being used on the touchscreen. So if you have 50 laptops that you would potentially like to use with touchscreens in your school you would need to buy 50 licences! Just to push this if you do not have a collaborative licence the smart software recognises the PC is attached to a non smart screen and will bring up a watermark across the screen. Both Smart and Promethean are becoming increasingly aware that their licencing is far too expensive and I know they are making moves to make it more affordable. How and when this will be put out to schools I do not know yet.

The throw on the projectors doesnt have anything to do with the LED light source it is dependant on the lens and the zoom. The A series casios have a massive throw range on them which covers virtually any older standard throw projector. This makes them perfect for replacing projectors that are already in situ without having to move the ceiling mount (you may need to change the mount and convert the iec connection, neither of which are particularly expensive). Casio do make a short throw version the ST145 which uses a fish eye lens to get a shorter throw, they are rather heavy though at 7.5kg. I do know that Casio have plans to release an ultra short throw version later this year, will update if i hear anything further.

Oooh you may be right there Mark 4" is very thick isnt it! I will check with Sahara however i can say that these screens are very very tough!

I would be very cautious about taking prices direct from Sahara as they do not supply direct, best speaking to your AV reseller. The Clevertouch screens are a great bit of kit. I have seen hundreds od demo's of this product and never seen a screen crack. The reason they are so heavy is that they have 4" reinforced glass so they are at least as strong as an IWB. The other thing to think on is that these screens can accept an HD input so even if the screen is not as large as a projected image due to the quality of the image they are still very clear from a distance. You can also enlarge areas of the screen (with the ipod pinch) very easily. If price is a concern then the newer 60" models with built in audio may be worth a look. If you are going to attend BETT we have arranged for the first showing of the 82" screen on Capita's stand (as sahara are not there themselves). There will be a Sahara representative there as well so well worth a look.

Smart have started a new accreditation process for Bridget and as such you would be very hard pushed to even purchase this without going through the correct channels. You can PM me if you would like to discuss this further as it is not really relevant for an educational forum.

Hi, The EDA 220 is the current Hitachi ultra short throw offering, decent unit. I believe the current Epson offering is the EB455 (or it could be 460) again a good unit and both should come with bracket included. The Epson X9 that Marc mentioned is a standard throw unit (way to read the post). Does it have to be an ultra short throw as there are a number of short throw units that could be wall mounted which should eliminate the wobbling issue, and would be cheaper than the ultra short throws.

alunmjones have you spoken to the reseller you bought the magicinfo from? If they are a worth while AV company they should be able to help you with this. I will forward this query on to Samsung for you and post their reply, but anyone selling this technology should have an understanding of it.

There are now a number of interactive projectors, Hitachi, Epson, and Sanyo all do them in an ultra short throw model, and the new Casio short throw also has interactive capability! They work in a very similar way to ebeam by using an electronic pen rather than relating to the board itself. They are a cheaper option than an IWB however the pens are quite costly and of course the software is much more basic than notebook or activinspire. Simple Si there is still stock of the A series Casio's in the UK but they are limited to a small number of top Casio partners. If you do require the large throw ratio they provide I would suggest cointacting Casio for them to give you a steer on where you can get one.

As far as I am aware the functionality of the software is fully functional with interactive projectors HOWEVER the licensing is the big issue as Smart refuse to license notebook software with interactive projectors. Before you look at replacing all IWB's I would speak to your reseller and get something in writing to back up your use of the software.

Marc is correct in terms of the lumens rating, the Samsung is 1000 and therefore less bright than 2000 ansi lumen projectors. However this does not mean that the image is not clearer than some 2000 lumen projectors as there are other factors to consider such as contrast ratio's and colour reproductions. I hate generalisations such as normal classrooms should use 2500 lumens projectors, utter tosh. It depends on a whole number of things with both the environment and the equipment. Every room is different and I have seen many classrooms where 2000 lumens is more than adequate. As for how the technology works I know the Casio uses coloured LED's and a coloured laser to produce the images. I know LED screens use LCD's but unsure on the projector side. I will confirm and post what I find.

You could simply use a Y cable which would split your VGA signal from your PC to monitor and projector. You may lose a small amount of image quality but it will get rid of the powered box for you.

That's very interesting Rokstar as we have seen no where near the failure rate you are alluding to on the 55's. The 35's certainly where a dog of a unit but as yet we have not had a lot of complaints from the 55's and we have supplied huge numbers of them. When you say substantial quantity how many are you talking and what percentage failure rate have you seen? Coud this have been a faulty batch?

You also have to remember that its not just how many pixels the device captures that makes up the quality of the image, you have to consider things like the lens quality, capture type, as well as all the standard photographic bits like lighting etc... You can get better quality images from a cheap lower pixel dedicated camera than most cameras on phones (although not as handy I admit).

GrumbleDook is spot on. Most digital signage systems can give an effective display, onelan, xibo, LG supersign, magicinfo, pads etc... Each one has its own USP's it's really dependant on whether or not you have specific things in mind for it. The most important thing by far is how much time you are going to associate to creating and updating content. We have put digital signage into a huge number of educational establishments ranging from one screen to over a hundred. They will only ever be as effective as the content you create. You really need the buy in from the SMT if it is going to be used for anything other than displaying the school logo and welcome messages. I have seen some great things achieved with signage in schools especially when students work is incorporated into it, but it does need time dedicated to making it work.

Should work, you might get a bit of signal degridation as it is not going to be the best quality bit of kit. Does the DVD player have any other outputs such as component or s-video? Both woul give better quality than scart and reduce the need for a splitter/switcher.
