mikeymike Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 just ran a broadband speed test as the net as been pretty slow recently the results were 200kbs download speed 206kbs upload speed is this any good??
Andrew_C Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Terrible if that was the only thing being downloaded. However, if your bandwidth is tight and was being maxed out during the test the results are meaningless.
mikeymike Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 (edited) these were other test results at various times, the lunch time one is obviously at peak time but the other two should of been pretty quiet but still showing rubbish speed results?? today 09.03 Download Speed 161 kbps (20.1kB/s) upload 205 kbps (25.6kB/s) yesterday 15.52 Download Speed 200 kbps (25kB/s) upload 206 kbps (25.8kB/s) Yesterday 13:31 Download Speed 93 kbps (11.6kB/s) upload 154 kbps (19.3kB/s) Edited February 5, 2009 by mikeymike
Michael Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Those are poor results you have there. A 2Mbps connection should be getting a max 240Kbps download and typically a 30Kbps upload.
plexer Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Depends on what your connection is? What site did you use to run the test? Ben
Michael Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Depends on what your connection is? I agree it does, but even with a 0.5Mbps broadband connection you should be getting 60Kbps download and 30Kbps upload. I find a good website to test your downloads (in practice) is microsoft.com. They usually manage to fill your broadband to max capacity.
mikeymike Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Depends on what your connection is? What site did you use to run the test? Ben used this one first search from google My Broadband Speed - Broadband Speed Test from PlusNet
Haptic Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 try this one much better, Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Fuzzz Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 What kind of connection do you have? xDSL, Cable or some other thing? What is the bandwith and overbooking as stated by your ISP? We are lucky to have a fiber-connection at 50/50Mbit (1:10). Yesterday I downloaded a 700+ MB movie from MSDN within a minute
flashsnaps Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I used speedtest.net And I got 5053kbps Download 294kbps Upload

flashsnaps Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/results/02890153.png How comes you upload is alot higher than your download? Shouldn't it be the other way round? And why is 6.934mbps download, and then 867kbps in brackets? Whats the actuall download?
Andrew_C Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Probably because the download is being hit by other users, and upload isn't. http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/results/02890604.png
